      There was a dilemma with their escape plan: the zombies were snarling and scratching at their door, and there wasn’t another way out.

      Ella flatly stated, For the record, I’m not climbing out the window.

      That makes two of us, then, Shay agreed. I don’t want to risk breaking my leg; I wouldn’t be able to outrun the zoms.

      Chuckling at the idea of them trying to outrun zombies at the speed of a snail, Ella said, I can’t argue with that. The question is: how are we going to do get out of here without getting attacked again?

      We’ll have to take the stairs, said Shay. There’s no other way; the elevator’s too slow, and we can’t wait around. Whatever we choose has to be instantaneous.

      Ella’s head bobbed up and down a couple of times. Shay was right—their only option was
