      As a kid I wandered into my aunt’s closet one evening and I remember seeing a sight I’ll never forget! SHOES! They were everywhere—all sorts of colors and styles. I couldn’t believe that one person could have so many different shoes! In particular, I remember a sparkly gold pair that just bedazzled me. I imagined that my aunt had a pair for every outfit or maybe even every day of the year!

      Looking back, I’m sure there weren’t as many as my memory recollects (or maybe there were!). Fortunately for you, I was inspired that night. At that time, it wasn’t for crochet designs, but fast forward twenty-plus years, and voila!

      I promise that you are going to love crocheting your own slippers! Why? One reason is that you can have the comfort you crave with the design you love. Also, the designs in this book are perfect for any season, no matter the temperature. Multiple sizes for each pattern give you the flexibility to make whatever pattern you choose for whomever you choose. Snuggle up with your hook and yarn and make your very own pair of slippers, socks, or loafers!

      To ensure success, you must pay close attention to gauge. If you don’t, you’ll end up with clown shoes or Barbie slippers. You’ll find designs at all levels of skill. If you’ve never crocheted slippers before, and even if you are an experienced crocheter, it’s a good idea to start with an easy pattern just to get the feel of it, then move on to more challenging designs.

      The memory of seeing all of those shoes in my aunt’s closet has stuck with me for many years, and now through crochet I have been able to add my own designs for slippers and shoes to my closet. I hope you enjoy adding to your own collection of footwear!

      These slippers, worked up in single and double crochet, are so stylish with their stripes and shell edging. You’ll love them!

      Finished Measurements

      Women’s Small: 8/20.5 cm long, 3.5/8.9 cm wide

      Notes

      •  The slipper is crocheted back to front in rows. It is then folded and sewn at the front and back. To finish, the shell edging is crocheted around the opening for the foot.

      •  To change colors, push the hook through the next stitch, pull the yarn back through, yarn over with the next color, and pull through. Color change is complete. For a tutorial, see page 99.

      Small (make 2)

      Using Color A, ch31.

      Row 1: Turn, sc in second chain from hook and in each across (30 sts).

      Rows 2–3: Turn, ch1, sc in each stitch.

      Join Color B, fasten off Color A.

      Rows 4–6: Turn, ch1, sc in each stitch (30 sts).

      Join Color C, fasten off Color B.

      Rows 7–9: Turn, ch1, sc in each stitch.

      Join Color A, fasten off Color C.

      Sew toe end closed so that it lies flat.

      Fold the beginning and end of Row 1 together and sew a seam to create the heel.

      Fasten off. Weave in all ends.

      Medium (make 2)

      Using Color A, ch31.

      Row 1: Turn, sc in second chain from hook and in each across (30 sts).

      Rows 2–3: Turn, ch1, sc in each stitch.

      Join Color B, fasten off Color A.
