About this ebook
Given the fact that we now have more work options and the flexibility to work from home, or we simply need a place to pay bills and manage a household, a home-office is a space we all need. You now have in your hands a resource which includes tried and tested solutions for organising your space, resources and time management, so once these ideas are implemented, the overall performance in your office will improve and your life will change for the better as a result.
Setting your home-office up with the right storage and equipment is imperative so you can have ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’ to ensure you can be as efficient and productive as possible.
Working with literally thousands of clients over the 22 years I have been running my business ‘Get Organised’TM in Sydney, Australia, has shown me that we all have similar needs when it comes to managing the relentless in-flow of paper into our daily lives.
We were certainly not taught at school or university how to manage organising ourselves and unless you have worked in an office and learned administrative skills, or studied business administration during your working career, you’ll probably find this aspect of daily life quite boring and it’s the last thing on the agenda. I’ve realised it doesn’t have to be boring – and can be quite exciting and liberating when you get it right!

Get Organised In Your Office - Carol Posener (Vale)
Introduction
If you have purchased this E-book – congratulations!
Setting your home-office up with the right storage and equipment is imperative so you can have ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’ ensuring you can be as efficient and productive as possible.
Working with literally thousands of clients over the 22 years that I have offered my service ‘Get Organised’ in Sydney, Australia, has shown me that we all have similar needs when it comes to managing the relentless in-flow of paper into our daily lives.
It need not be a difficult or expensive exercise to create a stylish, organised and comfortable workspace. With the right knowledge and some commonsense and creativity you can transform your home-office into a functional and efficient place.
Your business is a reflection of you and what you stand for. Your office space also reflects your business. If your office doesn’t reflect your business, it will be noticed. People have told me that, if they walk into an untidy office, they immediately loose respect for the person who runs the business. The same goes for a cluttered desk or workspace. No matter how good you are at your job, chances of promotion will be slim if you can’t organise your workspace or desk. Those around you or your boss will immediately assume that you are not a responsible person, so therefore you wouldn’t be able to cope with more responsibilities.
In addition, most people do not enjoy being disorganised. It can be totally dissatisfying and also embarrassing. Often though, they don’t know what to do about it or don’t take the time to find out or try something new – such as setting up a whole new space to make it work for them based on their style and budget.
The Psychology of Disorganisation
Why do we allow ourselves to become disorganised?
We all have busy lives and we are constantly bombarded with stimulus to enroll in – work to go to each day, skills to learn, people to see, meals to cook and eat, sport and games to play, friends to visit, relatives to catch up with, bills to pay, money to invest, movie and theatre tickets to purchase, holidays to go on, TV programs to watch, newspapers and magazines to read, responsibilities to our children, parties to plan, parties to go to, careers to start, careers to change, choices to make…..there are so many choices.
It can be a bit much sometimes, and so we let things slip. We only have 24 hours in the day! How can we fit it all in? Something has to give! Our priorities have been changing ever so gradually, year after year of late, until all of a sudden – we’re in a BIG mess. Your mail now includes notices of threatening disconnection for your phone line/s and there are paper piles in five areas of the house. Sound familiar?
TIP: Develop a routine, pattern, or ‘ritual’ that helps to keeps things in order, and helps to keep you organised. Sticking to that routine is the key!
Many people consider organised people to be boring, whereas disorganised people may believe themselves to be spontaneous, creative, wild and exciting. Very often creative people may focus totally on their latest work of art, and this can be their excuse for being disorganised. On one hand we could say, if your life depends on spontaneity, more often than not, you live in a state of confusion. But on the other hand, spontaneity is a good thing if you are able to deal with things on the spot - right there and then. Handling tasks straight away can be a spontaneous act. It keeps the flow of life in motion.
If you are unable to do this, and you procrastinate about the tasks you have to do and you don’t set goals or plan ahead, you probably won’t know how your life stands when you need to and this in time can present problems.
Consequences of Disorganisation
Are you…
Regularly charged late fees for bills not paid on time (wasting your money);
Always losing receipts or important documents that you need at a moment’s notice (wasting your time looking for
