The young man slammed his hands on the desk.
No! I refuse! I don’t want to and you can’t make do it.
But you have to… I already talked to the producer.
An older man tried to reason to the younger one.
No!
The young man raised his voice.
You have to! I’ll lose face.
The man tried to convince him.
I don’t want to do it!
You either do it or you can go and find yourself another job!
The man snapped.
Fine! Suite yourself! I quit!
The young man said and turned around and left the office and the club, never looking back.
*
Shit!
The young man sighed.
He was out with his best friends.
I’m unemployed AGAIN and in a week I have to pay the rent…
Don’t worry, Danny! We can lend you the money you need till you find another job.
They offered.
Thank you, Bill, Chris. I promise it will not take long.
Daniel gratefully thanked his friends.
Don’t worry Daniel.
Chris said. You can sing one of your songs as a thank you.
Both Bill and Chris grinned at Daniel.
OK.
Daniel was a bit drunk so he agreed immediately. He headed for the clubs stage. He took the microphone.
As soon as he started to sing everybody in the club stopped talking. Everybody stared at the young man that had such a heavenly voice.
Get the fuck out of here!
A low growl could be heard.
But, honey…
A woman started to beg.
A well defined eyebrow rose. ‘Honey?!’ Did you not hear me? Get. Out. Of. Here. And never come back again.
But… We’re lovers. You could help me get a meeting with a producer.
She started to beg again.
The man started to lose patience. He took his phone and made a call. Kaine. Get Miss Kate out of my office and make sure that she never comes here again.
The woman was stunned. You can’t just throw me out. We’re lovers.
She started to scream as soon as the secretary and another bodyguard entered the office.
She tried to get to the man behind his desk but she was grabbed by the bodyguard.
We never were and never will be lovers. Take her away.
Yes Mr. Williams.
The bodyguard bowed and left the office.
Kaine. Prepare for another audition.
Yes Mr. Williams.
And make sure that this time that only the men audition.
The man, Matt felt the need to add.
Yes Mr. Williams.
That’s all.
The secretary bowed and left the office.
‘Why does it always end the same way? They have a good voice. They’re fairly good in bed. But they always want more.’
‘It’s already been a week since I started looking for a new place and I couldn’t find a decent one.’ Daniel sighed. ‘They only want women or the owner tries to get me in bed with him.’
Daniel was tired. He had been looking for a job every day for the past week. But he couldn’t find anything. It seemed like his old boss talked to most of the owners and convinced them to not give him the job, even if they always said that he has a very good voice.
His phone suddenly started to ring. He picked up and he was greeted by his loud friend. DANNY!
Chris shouted.
Daniel had to take the phone from his ear or he was sure that he would have gone deaf. Hey. What’s going on?
Are you done for the day?
Bill asked.
Yes.
How did it go? Did you found anything?
No. I really think I should start looking for something deferent to do.
Daniel sighed.
Oh… Daniel, what do you say? Will you come with us tonight? We found a really cool club downtown.
Uhm…
Daniel hesitated.
Don’t worry. It’s out treat.
Chris said or more like shouted on the background.
Uhm… Ok.
Daniel hesitated again, he didn’t like to depend on other people’s money, but since things weren’t looking up and Chris was his friend he decided to just let go for one night.
Yes!
Chris shouted again. And again Daniel had to take the phone from his ear. Be ready by 8.
Bill said.
Daniel hung up and decided to head home.
*
It’s such a long line… Are you sure they will let us in?
Daniel asked.
Of course
Chris grinned. I have these.
And he flashed three black invitations in front of his friends.
How did you get these?
Bill asked.
My new girlfriend gave them to me.
Chris grinned again.
Wow… Your girlfriend has invitation to this place?!
Daniel asked.
Yes. Her boss gave them to her as a reward for her job. And she decided to give them to me.
Ah… Finally in…
The three boys finally got in the club. Even if the bodyguards commented that Daniel looked to young and that he couldn’t be 23 years old. But after he showed them his ID card they let him in.
The three friends went to the bar and ordered some drinks and watched the people around them.
The band was playing slow songs.
I wander why there is no singer.
Daniel asked himself.
One of the men that were also sitting at the bar answered. The singer was fired. The owner decided that she wasn’t good enough for his bar.
Hum…
The rumor says say that she was the owner’s lover.
The man’s companion said.
Also it says that she was his lover just so that he would use his connections and get her a contract.
She continued.
"They say that
