About this ebook
This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Jesus are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore seven topics, from different verses in the books of 1Kings, 1Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah and Job. They are: The love of God: between Solomon and Jesus; Build me a house; A priest with Urim and Thummim; Let the King live forever!; Redeemer; and Like Job, like Jesus.
Excerpts:
The love of God: between Solomon and Jesus
“Deadness was the state of man before the rescue work of Jesus, which he did because of the love of God to us (John 3:16). We were dead in trespasses and sin (Colossians 2:13, Ephesians 2:1); we gave off the smell of decay and death, as punishment for the sin in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:17). We were now accepted as beloved of God (Ephesians 1:6), empowered by the Holy Spirit, and now give off the sweet savour of the knowledge of Jesus Christ (2Corinthians 2:14-15).”
Build me a house
“We are being worked on, we are being prepared. This earth is a preparatory zone for the future public display. The stones for the building in the in the temple of Solomon were prepared out of sight (1Kings 6:1-7). It does not matter how obscure you are now you are being prepared for prominence in the New Jerusalem. As the divine master craftsman, Jesus is working on you now.”
A priest with Urim and Thummim
“You will be in error, when you have a self-made programme of salvation for yourself, or buy into other man-made ideas of salvation, because somehow you find the Christian claim that everybody-not-believing-in-Jesus-will-go-to-hell offensive. But the truth is that as many as receive Jesus is given the right to become sons of God (John 1:12).”
Let the King live forever!
“In a parable, Jesus described a king who went to take over a kingdom (Luke 19:12-27), and left certain of his servants with specific amounts of talents to work with. Eventual the hardworking ones were told to rule over a number of cities. Though the moral that is usually derived from that story is use, or lack of use, of talents, we can equally see that Jesus is that king and right now he is preparing a kingdom for us his servants-followers. And when he comes back, he comes with rewards, crowns, and what are you to do with crowns if you are not a king? He rewards with crowns which also means he rewards with cities for us to rule over at his second coming.”
Redeemer
“We were not redeemed with what can decay, what can be destroyed, but by the blood of Jesus (1Peter 1:18-21). The only thing that was not in Jesus at his time of resurrection was the blood that drained from him from every imaginable point on his body during his suffering to the point of death (Luke 24:39). Now Jesus does not have blood running in him, but being the blood of God (Acts 20:28), it is eternally active, it serves as an eternal reference to our redemption.”
Like Job, like Jesus
“God is the master of reversal of fortunes. Hannah was barren for so long, but she eventually birth many children (1Samuel 1:1-2:21). God gave her beauty for her ashes of barrenness, removing from her a spirit of heaviness (Isaiah 61:3), giving her garment of praise. She actually wrote a song to commemorate the way God supernaturally changed her story.”
