About this ebook
Fawn Brodie's biography of the founding Mormon prophet has received both praise and condemnation since it's publication in 1945. In 1995, at a symposium to mark its fiftieth anniversary, several scholars gathered together to re-examine Brodie, her Joseph Smith biography and its continuing importance. Bringhurst has brought together many of the essays from that meeting.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Useful for given recent scholarly views, both LDs and non-LDS, of Brodie's book. As a non-LDS scholar, I notethat even the LDS contributors (though criticizing and correcting Brodie on some matters), do accept some facts I personally consider discreditable to Smith, notably his practice of plural marriage. (Though some, but not all, of those marriages were nominal or posthumous)
