About this ebook

This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Purpose, Pursuit and Motivation are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore four topics, from different verses in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah. They are: The Prophetic ministry; Separating yourself to seek God; Proclaiming a fast; The principle of selective neglect.
The Prophetic ministry
“The words spoken were directive responsible for the effect. When Jesus told Peter to launch into the deep and he caught a great heap of fish (Luke 5:1-7), which was the productive expression of the prophetic in action.
“This brings out the “Godness” in man, who declared it and it stands in his creative works.”
Separating yourself to seek God
“Seeking God is referred to as a race that should to be run with endurance (Hebrews 12:1-2). What we are to seek is the face of the Lord; it involved waiting on Him. And the promise is that those who wait on the Lord will mount up with wings like eagle, shall run and not go weary shall, and walk without fainting (Isaiah 40:28-31).”
Proclaiming a fast
“Don’t reject congregational fasting, cutting off yourself from the blessing in it. However you should ensure that your faith is not in fasting but in God.”
The principle of selective neglect
“There are always opportunities to be distracted from the great possibilities that we have in the service of God to lesser pursuits; as far as Paul was concerned, Demas chose a lesser commitment when he decided to separate himself from the work of ministry as part of the ministry team of Paul (2Timothy 4:10). He had a change of commitment from God to the world and missed out on the higher calling in Christ Jesus. He chose temporary reward over eternal, natural gain over spiritual gain, earthly relevance over heavenly.”
