About this ebook
This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Purpose, Pursuit and Motivation are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore seven topics, from different verses in the books of 1Kings and 2Kings. They are: A word against rigidity; Pleasing God; Oneness with God; Between the old and the new prophet; Dealing faithfully; Spiritual blessing and Doing what is in God’s heart.
A word against rigidity
“Many are rigid to their own destruction like Pharaoh, where in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary they are bent on going head first into the pit. Many with destructive habits perpetuate their own errors meaning to ruin their lives, continuing on the way their ancestors do things, not willing to break away into the new order of God. God is always moving, but are you flexible enough to move with him and enjoy the full benefit of his manifest presence?”
Pleasing God
“They did not know that the word of God is a light to their path, and if they reject it they will be plunged into darkness. Peter asked Jesus what will be his gain having left all to follow him. Answer: everything. And that hope kept him (Mark 10:28-30).”
Oneness with God
“While the seed in us is that of the righteousness of Jesus, faith, keen expectation that we will express it is needed. When your expectation of yourself rhymes with the God’s, then you are one in that regard.”
Between the old and the new prophet
“Nevertheless in the new of the founding of the church, there are still new things. The time will not come that we would not need to depend on the Holy Spirit to move us into newness constantly.”
The leader
“Jesus is the leader of a new race. The reason he sends us out to preach the gospel to all creature (Mark 16:15) is so that we can introduce the people of the world to new life in Him. The words of the gospel are potent words, having the power of conversion (Romans 1:16).”
Dealing faithfully
“The crucible of suffering you faced was a way to shape you will into faithfulness, purified in motivation and singed-eyed focus on God and his purpose (Matthew 6:22); it was a way to discipline you, as a father disciplines a child he loves, so that we might become partakers of his holiness (Hebrews 12:1-11).”
Spiritual blessing
“Paul told the Colossians Christians to set their hearts on things on heaven and not on things on the earth (Colossians 3:1-4) focusing on spiritual blessings.”
Doing what is in God’s heart
“He was a teaching apostle with a special mandate to communicate a special variant of truth different from the variant that God communicates to the Jews about Christ through Peter, who was the apostle to the Jews (Galatians 2:7-8). He describes it as God working mightily though him. With that special understanding, Paul was able to do what was in the heart of God, he communicates His eternal truth.”
