About this ebook

This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Purpose, Pursuit and Motivation are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore ten topics, from different verses in the book of 1Chronicles. They are: Becoming who God is; Self-control in all things; 3 sacrifices Jesus wants you to make; Desiring gifts; The presence of God; The Tabernacle of David; Leadership: the need for discretion, understanding and obedience; Understanding your assignment; The plan; and Perfect heart.
Excerpts:
Becoming who God is
“The power and purpose of God are revealed by the coming of the light. Jesus was described as a great light to deliver those who have been in darkness (Matthew 4:16), and you are a son of God in his order.”
Self-control in all things
“The bible says that the devil moved David to count the number of the children of Israel. What was wrong in a population census? Nothing, except that it was not the will of God. And because of that thousands of people died in Israel (1Chronicles 21).”
3 sacrifices Jesus wants you to make
“That was to impress on him the unsettled (unpredictable) nature of following him. People who are not ready to be flexible are not ready to follow God. The young ruler probably had his plans laid out before him, two-year, and ten-year plan. Therefore following Jesus with the accompanying unpredictability was too much of a bargain for the man to make. Jesus was calling him to something higher, but he’ll rather stay on the ground level, stay with the predictable.”
Desiring gifts
“Faith rides on our desire, desire rides on our praying to God. Remember that Jesus said that we should make our desire work for us as we pray about them (Mark 11:22-24). When I speak in tongues, I stir up the gift of God in me. In the process, I embrace the call of God on me and get myself stirred up for the expression of the gift. The desire is expressed as we actually do the will of God, as we actually use the gift, stepping up in faith to use them with confidence, with the spirit of power, love and sound mind.”
The presence of God
“However for us, the presence of God for us is the refreshing (Acts 3:19), it is where we find fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). That is where we are energised, refueled with joy, strengthened with might by God’s spirit in our inner man (Ephesians 3:16-21). It is where we become full of the sense of God’s love for us.”
The Tabernacle of David
“Therefore, all believers are to offer to God sacrifices of praises (Hebrews 13:15) in fulfilment of that prophecy. Be the restored tabernacle of David, let the praise of God resound in your mouth, whether you sing like a nightingale or croak like a type of amphibian.”
Leadership: the need for discretion, understanding and obedience
“Paul rebuked the Corinthian Christians that they don’t have the knowledge of God, which he described as being shameful thing (1Corinthians 15:33-34). That was reflected in the many reference to inappropriate behaviours in that church. He concluded that they cannot handle the high issues of wisdom because they are carnal (unspiritual), babes (1Corinthians 3:1-3), the kind of people Solomon said should not be put in leadership position.”
Understanding your assignment
“Paul wrote that the Jews when they read the plan of God in the bible read it with a veil on their hearts (2Corinthians 3:11-18), but when we turn to the Lord, that veil is removed, then we can understand the plan of God and what our assignment in it is and receive the ability to fulfil them.”
