Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, born in 1960 and a fellow of philosophy, is one of the world’s most read French authors. He lives in Brussels and began his career as a playwright with Don Juan on Trial (1991), a variation on the myth of Don Juan, and The Visitor, a play in which Freud is visited by an enigmatic man who claims to be God himself.
