About this ebook

Keeping Promise Rock: Book One

Carrick Francis has spent most of his life jumping into trouble with both feet. The only thing saving him from prison or worse is his absolute devotion to Deacon Winters. Deacon was Crick's sanity and salvation during a miserable, abusive childhood, and Crick would do anything to stay with him forever. So when Deacon's father dies, Crick puts his college plans on hold to help Deacon as Deacon has helped him.

Deacon's greatest wish is to see Crick escape his memories and the town they grew up in so Crick can enjoy a shining future. But after two years of growing feelings and temptation, the painfully shy Deacon finally succumbs to Crick's determined advances and admits he sees himself as part of Crick's life.

It nearly destroys Deacon when he discovers Crick has been waiting for him to push him away, just like Crick's family did in the past.  When Crick's knack for volatile decisions lands him far away from home, Deacon is left, shell-shocked and alone, struggling to reforge his heart in a world where love with Crick is a promise, but by no means a certainty.

Author

Amy Lane

Award winning author Amy Lane lives in a crumbling crapmansion with a couple of teenagers, a passel of furbabies, and a bemused spouse. She has too damned much yarn, a penchant for action-adventure movies, and a need to know that somewhere in all the pain is a story of Wuv, Twu Wuv, which she continues to believe in to this day! She writes contemporary romance, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and romantic suspense, teaches the occasional writing class, and likes to pretend her very simple life is as exciting as the lives of the people who live in her head. She’ll also tell you that sacrifices, large and small, are worth the urge to write. Talk about a book that will totally put you through the ringer and have you wondering just what is going to happen right up to the end. This is the second book by Amy Lane that I've read, and I remain very impressed by her work (I have a friend who keeps recommending I read more, and I can see why he likes her work so much).

Crick and Deacon - the two of them are just incredible as characters, but all of the secondary characters are amazing, too. Ms. Lane has created an incredible and rich world here that left me laughing, crying, smiling, and worrying (mostly worrying, let's face it). I can wait to learn more about it in the next book in the series.

A sometimes intense and heart wrenching romance about two men growing up together, supporting each other, and falling in love, only to be torn apart by war, homophobia and natural disaster. The heroes are extremely tough and admirable but also deeply flawed in their own ways. A little over the top and disaster-heavy at times, it's a great read for those who like strong, imperfect, regular guy heroes to be thrown curve after curve to overcome.

Most definitely a 5 star read. Seriously, just an amazing book. I fell in love with the hero's (Deacon!) and even the minor characters. The plot keeps you hooked from the beginning to the end.

    Highly recommended!

This was a re-read for me. Often times, books lose some of their punch over time. Your tastes change, you discover authors you like more, sometimes things just don't stand the test of time.

This is NOT one of those books. From the first page to the last, I was enthralled just as much as I was the first (and second) time I read this. I shed so many tears while reading this book, and while some of it was pain, it was all so good. I love an author who can get that reaction from me, especially when I already know what's coming.

People who don't like a lot of angst should definitely stay away, but for people like me, who adore angst and heartfail, so long as I get my happy ending, you should dive right into this series with both feet.

I don't like to quote books in my reviews BUT:'Each kiss a benediction, a claiming. This is still you. I still love this. Don't worry, Crick; the whole of you is precious to me.' How beautiful is that?God these characters were so sweet it was incredible. A very emotive story which could rarely disappoint it's readers.

4 stars. I love an angsty read and this one surely delivered. I liked the way Deacon and Crick made their family. I'll definitely be picking up the next installment. From my blog: (October Reads post)B I love an angsty read and this one sure was that. Carrick (Crick) and Deacon are close friends as boys (Deacon is a few years older and he and his father take Crick in because his own mother and step-Bob (that's what they call him) are scummy) and that develops into something more. When they finally admit their feelings to each other (way past time they're legal - it's not squicky), Crick misunderstands something Deacon says and enlists in the Army and goes to the Middle East. Although they are apart for a lot of the book, there was plenty going on and enough flashbacks and emails/tweets/phone calls/texts so that I didn't feel deprived (as I often do when the 2 main characters spend a lot of time apart - hated Sleepless in Seattle - what was up with that?). Crick and Deacon make a family out of best friends, one of Crick's sisters and one or two other surprise additions along the way. I really liked the family they created for themselves and the solidarity of that unit.
