About this ebook

It’s not easy for a young gay artist like Jordan Carson to grow up in Jefferson, Wisconsin, where all anyone seems to care about in middle school and high school are the sports teams. But Jordan was lucky. He met Owen Nelson in the second grade, and they’ve been BFFs ever since. Owen is a big, beautiful blond and their school’s champion wrestler. No one messes with Owen, or with anyone close to him, and he bucks popular opinion by keeping Jordan as his wingman even after Jordan comes out at school.

Their friendship survives, but Jordan’s worst enemy may be himself: he can’t seem to help the fact that he is head-over-heels in love with a hopeless case—his straight friend, Owen. Owen won’t let anything take Jordan’s friendship away, but he never counted on Jordan running off to find a life of his own. Owen will have to face the nature of their relationship if he’s to win Jordan back.

Eli Easton

Eli Easton has been at various times and under different names a minister’s daughter, a computer programmer, a game designer, the author of paranormal mysteries, a fan fiction writer, an organic farmer, and a long-distance walker. She began writing m/m romance in 2013 and has published 27 books since then. She hopes to write many more. As an avid reader of such, she is tickled pink when an author manages to combine literary merit, vast stores of humor, melting hotness, and eye-dabbing sweetness into one story. She promises to strive to achieve most of that most of the time. She currently lives on a farm in Pennsylvania with her husband, two bulldogs, several cows, and a cat. All of them (except for the husband) are female, hence explaining the naked men that have taken up residence in her latest fiction writing. While I am normally very wary of "Gay for you" themes, and in parts of this book I just cringed and shook my head, in the end the story and characters pulled me in enough to enjoy it. The statement Owen's mother made at the end finally pulled me from somewhat dubious to accepting the relationship.

This author writes wonderful m/m romance, and readers who generally enjoy gay for you themes might really like this even more than I did.

Finally, I want to thank the author for recognizing that bisexuality exists. (While that might sound like a ridiculous statement to some, I have read plenty of M/M romances and especially gay-for-you stories that ignore and/or extremely downplay the existence of men who are capable of attraction and love to both women and men.)

This book was totally adorable, I had a smile on my face almost the entire story. The only time that smile slipped was the first sex between Owen and Jordan, because it seemed totally out of character to who Owen was. He was such a wonderful, do the right thing type, that I don't see him cheating, no matter what the situation was.

But all in all, this was the cutest book, and I loved watching them grow up, with a chapter for several stages of their lives, from Kindergarten, on up to high school.

I read a book a few weeks ago that was really similar, only it did NOT give me the HEA for the boys, and I was SO happy to get my fix with this story.

Not at all what I was expecting from reading the description... I mean yes it had the jock and the geek, but I didn't realize how short it was, and I thought that it would be more a second chance story, that they'd go off in their own directions, Jordy would become a big time comic artist, and Owen would show up at some big nerd convention, like Comic-Con, and then they'd have their HEA. Totally not what happened, but I loved it anyway. I love the GFY and friends to lovers tropes, and this book had both. I love the build-up to that moment you know the straight guy is gonna go ahead and mess around with the gay guy cuz he just can't help himself, and that twinge in your chest after they mess around when the straight guy brushes off the gay guy telling him he's not gay, and you totally feel for the gay guy and want to cry yourself. I love when the "straight" guy has that AHA moment and goes back to get his man. This book had everything I love, and I will definitely be reading more by this author.

Jordan Carson met Owen Nelson in the second grade. Ever since, the two have been inseparable. There's always been something about Owen that held Jordan's fascination. And as they grew older, Jordan learned exactly what that was. Jordan's gay and Owen is the object of his affection. There's a few problems with that, though. For one, Owen is straight. He's also a jock, the star of the wrestling team. And they live in a small town in Wisconsin. It's not the most open or accepting sort of community.

Although Owen doesn't seem bothered by the fact that Jordan is gay, there's still a strain on their friendship. Jordan wants more from Owen, even though he knows Owen can't give it to him. The heart wants what the heart wants. And sometimes even when one knows something in their head, the heart won't listen. So while Jordan is happy that he won't lose his best friend by coming out, it's a bittersweet happiness. Because he's just not sure he can stay close to Owen while knowing they can never be more than friends.

As someone who grew up in a small midwestern town, there are many elements of this story that rang true for me. The author has done a great job of capturing the environment where this all takes place. And that adds a real richness to the story. And the characters are great. It's not hard to like and empathize with both Jordan and Owen. Owen comes across a bit larger than life at times, but that's coming from Jordan's perspective. Knowing how Jordan feels, it makes perfect sense in the context of the story.

There are some expected twists here just by the nature of the story. And there are some unexpected twists as well. But it is a rather enjoyable one to read.

I've given this a young adult label because of the ages of the characters and the issues they face. I should note that there is some sexual content, just to be clear and upfront.

    Love love love it!

I loved how Jordan was such a fun narrator. And I loved how Owen was so mature for his age, but that didn't make him impervious to lying to himself and making some blind, stupid mistakes. Best of all I loved their friendship and their love for each other.

This book made me go all mushy and I'll definitely keep an eye on the author for some more awwwwsomenes.
