About this ebook

“Fuelling signs and wonders” is a book that seeks to urge the Body of Christ
to do the things that fuel signs and wonders. Signs and wonders are sure indicators of the last days. God uses them to signal the arrival of significant seasons. They are therefore sure signs of the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ. Many signs of the second coming of Jesus Christ abound in our time but one of the most compelling of them is the occurrence of signs and wonders.
The prophet Joel prophesied about the explosion of signs and wonders in the last days. This prophetic word is TOO LOUD to be ignored, TOO CERTAIN to fail, TOO URGENT for us to be in slumber, TOO COMPELLING to be resisted and TOO ASSURING to be doubted. It is time for the Body of Christ as a whole to walk in signs and wonders. Don’t miss out on this prophetic mandate.
The PROPHETIC WORD in the above scripture reference is too LOUD to be ignored, too CERTAIN to fail, too URGENT for us to be in slumber, too COMPELLING to be resisted and too ASSURING to be doubted. Introduction

Signs and wonders are necessary for propagating the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That is why the explosion of miracles was a major characteristic of the early Church. It is lamentable that the Body of Christ does not perform many mighty works today. The reason for the sparse demonstration of signs and wonders is a lack of spiritual and physical factors that fuel their manifestation. The occurrence of signs and wonders is comparable to a fire that requires fuel to burn. Without fuel, the fire can neither be started nor sustained.

Saint Matthew noted that Jesus Christ did not do many mighty works in His own country – hometown – because of the people’s doubting attitude. The hometown in question was probably Nazareth where His parents lived, though He also lodged in Peter’s house in Capernaum. The people of Nazareth allowed their familiarity with Jesus Christ and His family to hinder the flow of miracles among them.

53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.

54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?

55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.

58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

    Matthew 13:53-58

The above scripture reference implies that it is the will of God for many mighty works to be performed. However, even Jesus Christ did not do many mighty works in His hometown because of the negative conditions His people created. If an enabling environment is provided, signs and wonders multiply. Unlike the case of Jesus Christ in Nazareth, the early apostles experienced great miracles when the inhabitants of Jerusalem responded to them with faith. The people magnified the apostles and this created the atmosphere for more miracles to be performed.

12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

    Acts 5:12-16

The mighty works of God are exploding in some parts of the world in our time, like they did in the days of the early apostles of Jesus Christ because of the positive attitude of people who are hungry for revival. It is the will of God for signs and wonders to happen in the Body of Christ in abundance. The absence of an abundance of miracles in the Kingdom of God is not normal.

God anointed Jesus Christ with the Holy Ghost and power, thereby empowering Him to go about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil. Whenever the people received Jesus Christ with faith, miracles exploded.

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

    Acts 10:38

As mentioned early on, although Jesus Christ was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power, He did not perform many mighty works in His own hometown due to negative conditions. Some preachers ignorantly wish to see signs and wonders in their lives without doing the things that fuel them. Neither do they teach those who want miracles to provide the right inputs for them to happen.

Many believers don’t know that in many situations miracles don’t just happen – they are triggered off by some acts of faith and obedience, acting as fuel. Fuelling signs and wonders is the act of generating supernatural force and energy for signs and wonders through spiritual or physical means.

It is common to see believers criticise preachers for not performing signs and wonders. These believers don’t know that they have to provide the enabling conditions for miracles to take place. They refuse to acknowledge that they have a role to play in making miracles happen. Such miracle-gazing believers see preachers as supermen or magicians who are capable of performing their acts without the right spiritual and physical conditions.

The fact that Jesus Christ said signs would follow believers, does not mean they would follow us regardless of whether we do something or not. This assumption is one of the commonest mistakes believers make. We assume that simply because God promised us something, we can have it without taking any responsibility on our part. God’s promises are not acts of charity dished out to believers but acts of spiritual collaboration between Him and us.

The followers of Jesus Christ asked Him a question that shows that believers must provide the fuel for signs and wonders. After witnessing an incessant flow of miracles in Jesus Christ’s ministry, His followers asked Him what they could do to work the works of God.

28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

    John 6:28-29

In the above scripture reference, belief in the person God had sent – Jesus Christ – was the fuel for working the works of God. Fuel for signs and wonders generates the supernatural force needed for signs and wonders to take place. When we provide the fuel for signs and wonders, we receive them in abundance.

In this book, we shall study some factors that act as fuel for signs and wonders. Some of these are spiritual in nature while others are physical. God provides some of the fuel while His people have their role to play in making signs and wonders happen! In the first chapter, we shall consider an important factor for the explosion and multiplication of signs and wonders – the presence of God.

    CHAPTER 1

    The Presence Of God

The presence of God literally means the face of God or in the sight of God. The term, face of God refers to God’s countenance. It represents all that God is and has. The term, in the sight of God, refers to God’s power by which He sees everything in the universe including people’s hearts. The presence of God implies God’s existence with someone, or His being in a place with the will to bless and demonstrate His power.

Human beings are confronted with countless challenges. Nevertheless, they are so limited in many ways that they are not capable of surmounting them. God exerts His power over people’s challenges thereby rendering their limitations non- consequential.

When God’s presence shows up, our inabilities cannot stop us from overcoming our challenges.

The presence of God is the reason we triumph always in Jesus Christ. This is the reason we can’t take the glory for the miracles that take place in our lives. The apostle Paul described the nothingness of man and concluded that no one can boast of any glory in His presence.

26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

    27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

    1 Corinthians 1:26-29

We saw in the introduction of this book that Jesus Christ performed good deeds and healed all who were oppressed by the devil because God was with Him.

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

    Acts 10:38

The statement, God was with him, means the presence of God was with Jesus Christ. The presence of God was the reason for the signs and wonders in Jesus’s life and ministry. The Pharisee, Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, attested to the fact that no one could do the miracles Jesus Christ did if God was not with him or her.

1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

    John 3:1-2

The presence of God is fuel for signs and wonders. The power of God accompanies His presence anywhere He manifests Himself. This power is the life, energy, virtue or spirit that enters situations and people’s lives to bring about change and transformation. The power of God, which is encapsulated in His presence, heals the sick and brings deliverance to the captives.
