About the Author
---
"When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.
When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.
Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world."

Introduction
Nobody succeeds alone…EVER! So, what if you were able to hand pick exactly who you had to work with and be around everyday? What if you had the ability to get people to do what you expected them to do all the time? What if you could get everyone around to support you in reaching the pinnacle of success? That would be great, but the reality is that in most areas of life you don’t get to choose who you are around. What you can do however, is learn to build relationships with the people around you so they want to do what you expect and support you in your success.
For the most part, you don’t get to choose who’s on your team, who your co-workers are, and in many cases who your boss is. If you are to succeed in life, you need to recognize that your level of success, satisfaction, and happiness will often depend on your ability to get along with people.
Unless you’re a hermit living off the land in a desolate forest, you are surrounded by people every day. You may be married with kids or have brothers and sisters. I don’t know your particular situation, but I do know that you have people in your life in some form or fashion.
There are people who take your order at the drive through, people who scan your groceries at the cash register, and people on the other end of the phone when you call a customer service number. You pass them in the halls at work, you answer to them in the office, and you help them with their projects. They are your co-workers, your friends, and your customers.
The point is that if you’re surrounded by them for most of your day, wouldn’t it make sense to learn how to maximize your level of success in building relationships with them?
Like I said, nobody succeeds alone. So in order to live a life of fulfillment, you have to recognize the impact as well as the importance of relationships and the roles they play in your life. Then learn to adapt who you are and who you are being with those you surround yourself with. They will ultimately hold control over how far you get in life and, I assume, your goal is to get as far as possible.
Learning who you are and identifying the roadblocks that are keeping you from establishing strong relationships is the first step. Then, you’ll need to learn how to recognize who others are and how you can best relate to them. In doing this, you can quickly build stronger, more successful relationships.
In life you ultimately get to make choices for one person and that person is you. As much as you might like to control other people, their choices, and their behavior, you can’t. By taking responsibility for your actions and learning to lead people how they want to be led, you will accomplish your goals and allow others to take action in a way that makes them comfortable.
Once you have established who you are and the role others play in your life, you need to take steps toward building stronger relationships with them.
By recognizing how people communicate best, learning to give feedback in a receptive way, understanding that growth may be uncomfortable, and adopting a mindset that everybody has value, you are well on your way to creating relationships that will support you in living a happy and fulfilled life.
Your level of success in life depends on you taking responsibility for your actions and learning how to connect with people. The key to this book is to give you the tools to recognize where you need to make changes, develop the skills required to make these changes happen, and adopt the attitude that will guide you toward success.
We have to understand that it isn’t what happens to us that affects our behavior but rather our interpretation of what happens to us. If you can change how you think about your interactions with others, you are on a path to significant change and more effective habits.
By adopting the ideas in this book, you can make your entire family stronger, your interactions with strangers more rewarding, and your relationships with co-workers better. That can lead to a happier and more productive work and home environment.
Today is the day that you begin to live a life on purpose. Today is the day you start living a happier, purpose-driven, and more fulfilling life.
The Story
As the sun shone through the window in John’s bedroom he rolled over from a deep sleep and glanced at the clock. John suddenly sprang to his feet in surprise. Who turned off my alarm!?!
he yelled at his wife, Sarah, sleeping next to him. It’s 7:23 and now I’m going to be late!!
He jumped out of bed and ran to his closet to get his clothes for the day. Where is my white shirt?
