      ABOUT THE CITY OF DAVID

      City of David is a Parish of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), one of the largest and fastest growing Pentecostal Churches in the world. RCCG started in 1952 with just 12 members but today has grown into a mega Church with parishes spread across five continents of the world.

      In 1992, a new Parish of RCCG was set up called Freedom Hall, under the leadership of Pastor Tony Rapu. It was a Model Parish in RCCG and it attracted young professionals and students.

      City of David, an offshoot of Freedom Hall started in October 1996 with less than a hundred workers, with Pastor Eskor Mfon as the Pastor. Between 1996 and 2002, the City of David held services at the Lagoon Restaurant, Victoria Island. The Church grew rapidly within a few years, holding two large services on Sunday mornings.

      It soon became clear that the facility at the Lagoon Restaurant had become inadequate to accommodate the growth that God was bringing. In August 1999, the leadership of the Church took a step of faith to purchase the piece of land whereon the current sanctuary is built. In 2003, in the 7th year of the Church, the first phase of the sanctuary which seats approximately 2,500 was completed and dedicated.

      In April 2007 Pastor Eskor Mfon went to be with the Lord. Pastor Ben Akabueze held fort until September 16, 2007, when the Provincial Pastor of RCCG Lagos Province 4, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade (fondly called Pastor ID), assumed the leadership of the Apapa Family and took over as Pastor of the Church, ably supported by his wife, Pastor Siju Iluyomade.

      God gave Pastor ID a vision of exceeding greatness and the Church has been growing in leaps and bounds with signs and wonders following. What eye has not seen, what ear has not heard, nor entered into the heart of man, is what God has been doing for those that love Him at C.O.D. These great things God has unveiled and revealed by and through His Holy Spirit [1 Corinthians 2:9-10].

      The Church now has two services: the Sunrise and Sunshine Services. Under Pastor ID's leadership, the numerical growth of the Church has increased from 1,800 in September 2007 to about 4,500 in October 2010.

      Please join us as we unravel together this never-ending story of God's love and favour (over-generous preferential treatment) in every area of our lives.

      Vision of The Redeemed Christian Church of God

      1. To make heaven.

      2. To take as many people with us.

      3. To have a member of RCCG in every family of all nations.

      4. To accomplish No. 1 above, holiness will be our lifestyle.

      5. To accomplish No. 2 and 3 above, we will plant Churches within five minutes walking distance in every city and town of developing countries and within five minutes driving distance in every city and town of developed countries.

      We will pursue these objectives until every Nation in the world is reached for the Lord Jesus Christ

      Vision of City Of David

      b. The Vision of exceeding Greatness.

      4. To build a people manifesting the Spirit of Love, Excellence, Faithfulness, Character and Integrity, who will do the following

      6. Establish God's government, order and structure.

      7. Demonstrate the relevance of Christianity through contemporary and creative expressions of our faith.

      OUR BELIEFS

      We believe in:

      God the Father

      Creator of heaven and earth, who made man in His own image and likeness.

      Jesus Christ

      The only begotten Son of God the Father.

      The Holy Spirit

      The Comforter and Teacher of all things, who dwells within us, uniting us to Jesus.

      The Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ

      That Jesus Christ died at Calvary for the sins of mankind. He rose from death in His glorified body on the third day, and He ascended into Heaven where He is seated at the right hand of God the Father.

      The Blood of Jesus Christ

      Which was shed for us at Calvary. It cleanses us of all sin and grants us access into the presence of God.

      Salvation

      It is the gift from God through grace and faith in Christ Jesus. That all who believe in the name of Jesus Christ may be saved by turning from sin to repentance, and are born again by the Holy Spirit through trusting in His death and resurrection.

      The Baptism of the Holy Spirit

      Is available to all who believe in Jesus Christ, and is evidenced by the gift of speaking in tongues.

      Water Baptism

      By immersion in water as Jesus was baptized

      Sanctification

      Separation from the world unto God - life of true holiness.

      The Second Coming of Jesus Christ

      That Jesus Christ will come again in Glory and in Power. Those dead in Christ will rise first and those alive in Christ will be in the presence of God for eternity.

      The Holy Bible

      Is the infallible and authoritative Word of God for eternity.

      The Mandate

      That man was created in the image and likeness of God to be fruitful, to multiply, to replenish the earth, to subdue it, and to have dominion over it.

      Abby's Club

      A support structure for widows, widowers and single parents.

      A Can Can Make a Difference (ACCMAD)

      ACCMAD is a Soup Kitchen that serves a hot meal every Sunday to the less-privileged in different areas of Lagos.

      Business Network

      A forum to encourage and enable entrepreneurs to become skilled, knowledgeable and effective in their line of business.

      City of David Missions

      COD Missions plants Churches locally and internationally using the best suited strategies.

      General Counseling

      A group of trained people who have been called out by God to assist members of City of David go through various challenging situations.

      Davidic Marshall Corps

      This is the COD Traffic Control Team.

      Evangelism

      A department of the Church charged with the mission of using various channels to actively share the gospel with unsaved members of our community.

      Firm Foundation

      This is a teaching ministry of the Church comprising of two arms:

      a. Foundation & Water Baptism Classes focused on building up new converts, and

      b. Sunday school.

      Follow-Up & Visitation

      This department was set up to ensure that new converts and new guests are systematically nurtured to stay grounded in Christ.

      Brothers' Keepers

      Is a unit of the Follow-Up & Visitation department that reaches out with the love of God to those who have indicated their desire to make the City of David their home Church. Their goal is to seamlessly integrate these new members into the COD Family by acting as liaisons to the various ministries in COD, calling to encourage them and monitoring their attendance as part of the Each-One-Reach-One-Initiative.

      Joshua Ville (J-Ville)

      Joshua Ville is the young adult ministry of the City of David. It is focused on developing young people to lead our nation in various spheres of influence: entrepreneurship, politics, ministry, and working within the public and private sectors.

      Joshua Ville also supervises two student outreach ministries:

      a. Sovereign Army Fellowship (S.A.F) at the University of Lagos; and

      b. Triumphant Company at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

      Junior Church

      The Junior Church exists to cater to the needs of the children and help them grow in the knowledge, love and fear of God.

      Handmaidens

      Handmaidens is the Women's Ministry of City of David with a vision of building a total woman.

      Congress Hospitality

      During the Holy Ghost Congress every December, the General Overseer of RCCG hosts over 500 foreign guest ministers. This unit of Handmaidens and its financial partners provide an exceptional oasis of refreshment for these guests.

      Heritage Prayer Group

      The Heritage Group is a prayer and support group for pregnant women and couples believing God for the fruit of the womb.

      Hospitality

      This department shows love through ministering and serving first timers, new converts and guest ministers.

      House Fellowship Secretariat

      This department coordinates the various House Fellowships at City of David, which are an avenue to build the family of God within a homely setting. Each House Fellowship meets weekly to provide a comfortable environment for Church members to study the Word and interact more closely.

      International Friends

      A fellowship group to integrate and relate with expatriate members of City of David.

      The Multimedia Department is responsible for media support content during services and
