It was a beautiful April morning, and in just a few days, Christopher would celebrate his ninth birthday. He lay on his tummy gazing out of the sliding glass doors, thinking about the fast approaching, exciting day.
The sun was golden as it shone on newly budding leaves. He watched the birds flittering among the trees with a happy smile on his face. A bird house hung on a tree branch just outside the doors, and he watched as a pair of finches flew to a wreath Mom had put out on another tree limb. The wreath was full of feathers and grasses for nest building.
In and out they would go through the tiny opening, busily building their nest. Christopher knew that soon he’d see baby birds and was very happy. Watching the busy feathered couple, a thought suddenly flashed into his mind.
He had an idea of what he wanted for his birthday gift. He couldn’t wait to tell his mother! He wanted a bird! Not just any bird: a parrot!
Christopher imagined himself playing with his friend. He would teach him to climb a ladder and ring a bell and would teach him to say many words like Αhello≅
