About this ebook

"It's All About the Music!"

Welcome to another in the Legends of Rock & Roll series.

This is, like the others, a mini-biography of one the greatest of American bands, The Doors.

The Doors were one of most intense and radical rock groups of the Sixties and their legacy can still be felt today, 40 years after the death of Jim Morrison.

Their career was short, only about 6 years, but they fit a lifetime of music into those 6 years.

This was the Sixties, the generation that gave us LSD, hippies, protests of the Vietnam War, flower children, and free love. Jim Morrison and the Doors wrote and sang about all of that. They were as interesting to watch on stage as they were to listen to.
This book is about the group, but even more importantly, it's about the music. This series is my way of honoring the people that have brought so much joy to our lives over the years.

It is an unauthorized fan tribute.

Inside you'll find:

Introduction - Remarks about The Doors in general and a kick-off for the book.
In the Beginning - A brief biography of each of the four members of the Doors and how they came together.
Birth of the Doors - The beginning of the band. Do you know how they got their name?

James Hoag

James Hoag has always been a big fan of Rock & Roll. Most people graduate from high school and then proceed to "grow up" and go on to more adult types of music. James got stuck at about age 18 and has been an avid fan of popular music ever since. His favorite music is from the Fifties, the origin of Rock & Roll and which was the era in which James grew up. But he likes almost all types of popular music including country music. After working his entire life as a computer programmer, he is now retired and he decided to share his love of the music and of the performers by writing books that discuss the life and music of the various people who have meant so much to him over the years. He calls each book a "love letter" to the stars that have enriched our lives so much. These people are truly Legends.

    About the Author

    Introduction

The Doors were one of most intense and radical rock groups of the Sixties and their legacy can still be felt today, 40 years after the death of Jim Morrison.

I was pretty much an adult when The Doors came on the scene. We started hearing about them around 1967. I had gotten married in 1966 and was expecting our first child. But who could ignore The Doors, especially Jim Morrison.

Jim Morrison was the epitome of a rock star. He was handsome, confident (or seemed to be). He was very, very naughty and we loved it. You’ve heard the old saying that every girl wanted him and every guy wanted to be like him. That’s true about a lot of performers, but none more so than Jim Morrison. It seemed that almost every week there was a story about some escapade of Jims. He was arrested for this or that and became one of the truly bad boys of rock music.

Jim Morrison’s light didn’t last very long. From the time The Doors joined together until the death of Jim Morrison was only 6 years. But they made an impact on music and the music business that can still be felt today.

The Doors were basically made up of four guys, Jim Morrison (vocals), Ray Manzarek (keyboard), John Densmore (drums) and Robby Krieger (guitar). All but Jim are still alive.

    In the Beginning

    Jim Morrison

Jim Morrison was born James Douglas Morrison on December 8, 1943 in Melbourne, Florida, an east coast town that is about 180 miles north of Miami. His mother was Clara Clarke and his father was George Stephen Morrison. The family is of Irish and Scottish
