About this ebook
Joe Parkson swore he'd never fall in love with a woman again. Dalia had about killed him. Thankful for his friend Jason knocking him out and bringing him back to reality, Joe wouldn't be alive today. It took him months to get over Dalia's manipulation of his feelings and to get healthy again. When he decided to take a wife, he agreed to become a mail order husband. Love was not an emotion he would ever feel again.
Sadie Thompson was running her pa's ranch after he passed and she needed a husband, because cattle rustlers were robbing her blind. She needed someone she could trust and she couldn't take a chance on marrying any man she knew in town. She didn't know who the cattle rustlers were or who was the head of the thieving culprits.
When Joe Parkson arrived in town and she married him, she was appaled at the story he told her about a woman named, Dalia, and what she did to him. Sadie wanted a real marriage and children. She was determined to change Joe's mind on love, marriage, and trust. In her heart, marriage was a lifelong commitment filled with love.

Howdy Readers, I've always loved writing westerns, but this is my first novelette that I decided to publish. There's just something about a cowboy and I love writing about them. I hope you enjoy my stories.

The Heartbroken Mail Order Husband - Patty West
Chapter 1
Joe Parkson stepped off the train happy his trip was over. He wasn't a man to stay closed in for very long. He liked being outside and working. He looked around at the people meeting other passengers that disembarked, and searched the crowd for his future wife. She wrote him that she would be the only woman at the stage depot wearing pants and a shirt. She wasn't much for wearing dresses only when she had to.
He made his way through the crowd, stepped up onto the platform, and caught sight of a woman reining in her horse at the other end, and holding the reins of another one. He grinned slightly at the petite woman who slid out of the saddle and looked around. Her cowboy hat covered the top of her head, but her long, luxurious, fiery red hair fell unbound to her tiny waist. She was beautiful. That thought made him frown. Beautiful women were a heap of trouble and he wasn't about to let his heart be tangled up again. No, not this time. That's why he chose a mail order bride in the first place. An arranged marriage of sorts. He wasn't about to lose his heart ever again.
Joe held his satchel in one hand, walked over to her, and cleared his throat to get her attention. Sadie Thompson?
When she turned her head to stare at him, his heart slammed against his chest. She had those bright blue eyes that held that look he craved in a woman. He reined in his thoughts and shoved them aside. The last woman with that look about killed him and he wasn't taking any chances this time.
Joe?
Yep. You ready to get hitched?
Sure am. I brought you a horse to ride. Let's get down to the church. I'm sure Pastor Kelly is waiting for us.
He nodded, took the reins she handed him, placed the handles of his satchel around the saddle horn, and vaulted into the saddle. The horse danced under him, but he controlled the spirited mount. How are things at the ranch?
She wrote to him that she had trouble with rustlers and was trying to catch them.
I had another ten head missing this morning. I'm thinking someone in my employ is in on the rustling.
Have you hired anyone new lately?
Not since last year around Christmas time when Wooley came down with the ague.
