About this ebook

After all their recent adventures, Zeena and Saarik aren’t surprised when a plea for help comes again; this time from a phoenix named Uri. But the two friends have more than the freeing of the fire fairy, Tandie, and the safety of the fire creatures who live in the volcano to worry about. An elven village lies near the base of the now very unstable volcano, and the fate of the elves is in Zeena and Saarik’s hands.

Victoria Zigler

Victoria Zigler is a blind vegan poet and children's author. Born and raised in the shadow of the Black Mountains of Wales, UK, she moved away from Wales three times: once to spend six months living in Alberta, Canada, the other times to spend a few years living near Hastings on the South-East coast of England, UK, each time returning to Wales. Now she lives in Wales again, along with a chinchilla named Mollie, a West Highland White Terrier named Lilie, a Cavapoo named Logan, a Hermann’s Tortoise named Artemis, and her Canadian husband, Kelly.Despite spending far too much time in hospital, and eventually losing her sight to Congenital Glaucoma, Victoria - or Tori, if you prefer - has been writing since she knew how, with no plans to stop any time soon. So far she has published 11 poetry books and 46 children’s books. Tori is also a contributor of the sci-fi and fantasy anthology Wyrd Worlds II, as well as the Poetry Treasures anthology. Additionally, her Hermann’s Tortoise, Artemis, was featured in both the Magnificent Pets Coloring Book For Children and the Magnificent Pets Mandala Coloring Book For Adults.Vegan due to both a love for animals and dairy allergy, as well as an Eclectic Pagan, Tori describes herself as a combination of Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter books: Hermione’s thirst for knowledge and love of books, combined with Luna’s wandering mind and alternative way of looking at the world. She has a wide variety of interests, designed to exercise both the creative and logical sides of her brain, and dabbles in them at random depending on what she feels like doing at any given time, but is most likely to be found playing with her petkids, curled up somewhere with a cup of tea and a book, or trying to keep one step ahead of those pesky typo fairies while writing her own books.

    Prologue

Enid stood up to her ankles in the slightly chilly water of the ocean; right on the edge of the sandy sea shore, looking out over the ocean in the direction of Mermaid Island, even though the tiny island was too far away for her to see so much as a spec on the horizon from this distance.

In that moment, with the sun shining down on her from the azure sky, the sea breeze playing with her hair, the ocean’s distinct salty scent in her nostrils, and the waves rolling gently against her bare legs, Enid felt at peace; her jet black eyes softening to a shade of grey, and the twisted mask of rage her face had become recently melting in to the smooth features that were more recognizable as those of the Spirit fairy.

But then the harsh cry of a sea bird brought her focus back to reality, and the jealousy and anger returned; her eyes darkening, and her face once more twisting in to an ugly mask of rage, as the bird’s far from melodic cry was joined by those of its fellows.

Now that Enid’s focus had returned, the calm and peace of the ocean was lost, and she began to think, and to remember. She thought about a lot of things, but most of all, she thought about the events that had been responsible for making her rage and jealousy grow so much they twisted her features and blackened her heart.

Enid was the fifth element fairy, and all she wanted was for people to remember her existence; to acknowledge her when they acknowledged her four sisters, who were the fairies for the other four elements. But everyone always forgot her element even existed.

Three times Enid had tried to remind them, and three times now the faerie dragon known as Zeena had ruined her plans to make the creatures of the world remember that there were five element fairies, not just four, and that she – Enid the Spirit fairy – was the one that kept being forgotten.

First Zeena had freed Heidi the Earth fairy from the cave in the woods. Then she had freed Ora the Air fairy from the cave in the mountains. Now she had freed Lana the Water fairy from the cave on Mermaid Island.

A clan of korreds, all the goblins and kobolds who lived in the Western mountains, and even a quickling hadn’t been enough to stop the one they called the wielder of the five magics of the elements from putting a stop to the Spirit fairy’s plan. Even Enid’s plan to separate Zeena from her pixie friend, Saarik, had failed.

Well, Enid still had one sister left to use in her plans.

Just like with Lana the Water fairy, Enid would need to use her magic to even get close to Tandie the Fire fairy. But that didn’t matter. Even if her sister was paying enough attention to notice her approach, Enid knew the Fire fairy would let her curiosity win out, meaning a shorter journey for Enid as the other fairy came to meet her.

But that was if she was even paying attention, which Enid doubted. So, that would just mean Enid would have to go to her. That was fine by her; the element of surprise would make things go much more smoothly.

Enid would make the trip in to the volcanic Eastern mountains to find and capture her fourth sister. Then she’d make sure the creatures under the protection of the Fire fairy remembered who she was.

    That included
