This book was written in memory of two women who changed my life. The first is my mother, Marian Garrett Wilburn, who taught me how to crochet. The second is my friend, Sheila Ann Lovings, who asked me to teach her. I miss you both and am very thankful for the time we had together. I think of you whenever I hold a hook in my hand.
Tartans
While the tartan is part of the national dress of Scotland, it is widely used around the world for more than just the kilt that so many think of when hearing the word tartan.
It can be found in drapes and upholstery, as well as other objects such as skirts, slacks and apparel of every type.
A tartan is defined by the Scottish Register of Tartans Act (2008) Section 2 as a woven design consisting of two or more alternating colored stripes which combine vertically and horizontally to form a repeated checkered pattern. The
