    When you get saved, your only duty is to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit and grow in knowledge of Christ. But as you grow in the spirit, you will begin to notice that there is a war in place and the church is at the centre of this warfare.

    Ephesians 6:12 is our key verse in this book and in it, Paul is telling the Ephesians that we as believers are engaged in a battle, and this battle is waged against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Hence it is A spiritual Warfare.

    But what are these principalities? Who are these powers and world rulers of darkness, and why are they located in heavenly places? In this book we shall dig deep into the scriptures to identify what this war is about, who these spiritual enemies are and what our role as the church is.

    SPIRITUAL HIERARCHY

    Paul in his letter to Ephesus uses words like Principalities, Powers, Thrones and Dominions so casually yet in our modern times we don’t really know what they are. If we are fighting a battle against spiritual forces of darkness, then it’s most crucial that we understand how authority functions in the spirit. We must unravel spiritual hierarchies and see where we as Christians are positioned and what we must do to overcome.

    First and foremost it is vital to understand that every order of ruler ship in existence was created by Jesus Christ.

    Colossians 1:16

    for all things in heaven and on earth were created by him all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers all things were created through him and for him.

    Note it says, visible and invisible. Paul had never met the church at Colossae in person, yet in his first letter he uses words like Principalities, Powers and Thrones without explanation. His readers understood what these were, because they were common hierarchies in ancient political structures. If I was writing today and I said, we are battling against presidents, senators and judges in the spirit, my audience would get me immediately.

    So in order to fully understand what these spiritual orders are, we must first understand the words as they were used in everyday life. Paul tells us that there are visible, and invisible thrones, dominions, principalities and powers. So by looking at the visible structures, we can then understand the spiritual structures.

    THRONES

    Greek Word: Thronos

    Thrones are where kings sit when judging and is therefore the highest level of ruler ship and authority.
