I’m Erica and I live in New Zealand—otherwise known to the rest of the world as: that pretty scenic place where they made the Lord of the Rings and all those Hobbit movies. I spend most of my time writing (also procrastinating), reading, hanging with my long suffering husband and frolicking with the neighbour’s cat. As a writer I delight in plotting evil and writing it all down for others to read and enjoy/despair–muahahahahahahahaha!

Rhys is my husband.
The brothers stared, their shock at this announcement obvious. Xan, as always, was the first to recover.
Welcome to the harem.
Rhys looked like he was about to ask what was going on when Vikki jumped in. "He is my real husband, Xan."
Will cut his brother off before he could say something even stupider. A pleasure to meet you, Rhys…
Blackburn,
he said and shook Will's hand. Doctor Blackburn.
Of course,
Xan muttered.
In archaeology and anthropology,
Rhys explained. He turned to Vikki and smiled. You have no idea how glad I am that you weren't on that ship when it was destroyed. Should I get you home or are you about to demand we go to the museum first?
Actually, we're going after Sargo.
He didn't look surprised at this. Instead, he asked, We?
Me, Xan, and Will,
she said then hastily added, and you.
Rhys glanced at the brothers before shepherding Vikki away for a quiet word. I know they rescued you, Viktoria. But you cannot expect total strangers to take up your cause.
Will and Xan traded questioning looks. The married couple were still within earshot, allowing them overhear everything, including the argument. When Vikki eventually won, because it was inevitable, they returned.
Rhys is coming with us,
she announced before turning on her heel and leading the way back to the ship.
Vikki showed Rhys her quarters and he stowed his bag away. He managed one observation about how cozy the room was before Vikki jumped into his arms and showed him exactly how glad she was to still be alive.
Viktoria,
he murmured while his shirt was in the process of being yanked over his head.
Mmm?
she asked as she admired the planes of his chest with her hands. It had been months since she had been able to touch him.
He captured her amorous hands in his and waited for her to look at him. We shouldn't do this. Not now,
he said.
She growled and he cautiously took a step back, putting distance between them. The low guttural noise, reminiscent of her Lyrissian ancestors, had come from deep inside her. While she had never hurt Rhys, they both knew the extent of her strength. She could take him in a fight. She could break his bones if she wanted.
Viktoria,
he said again.
Vikki turned away so he wouldn't see her disappointment. Wouldn't see her anger or the shame. She felt him close the distance he had put between them and rub her shoulders. Still, it didn't make up for the rejection.
Two more weeks,
he told her. Then we can have sex again.
She clenched her fists in frustration. Sometimes she hated being part Lyrissian. If she had been fully human this would never have been a problem. Lyrissians mated while the female was fertile, creating a bond that could never be broken. A full-blooded Lyrissian female was fertile only once a year. Vikki was a quarter Lyrissian, which meant her cycle was between that of a human and Lyrissian. Every five months her window for bonding lasted approximately seven days. Conception during this period was one hundred percent successful if her mate was Lyrissian or not inoculated. Vikki didn't want to get pregnant. The very thought made her hyperventilate. She did, however, want Rhys
