    INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Ten Keys for Unlocking the Bible Course.

If you want to connect with God and are interested in what the Bible has to say, but you don't know where to begin, the Ten Keys study is for you.

The Bible is the world's best-selling book, but it is long and sometimes difficult to understand. The Ten Keys for Unlocking the Bible video series will give you a place to begin. This video program is rather like a high-altitude flight over a range of mountains. You will see what the ground looks like and get a good glimpse of the highest peaks.

The ten keys highlighted in this video series will help you to understand who you are and what gives your life meaning and significance. They will help you to make sense of this world with its great joys and shattering disappointments. They will help you to know God and show you how He has been reaching out to men and women throughout the Bible story, and how He is still reaching out to you today. Finally, these ten keys will introduce you to Jesus Christ, showing how His life, death, and resurrection can give you hope, purpose, and power for today.

I am grateful to my colleague Greg Norwine for his partnership in developing this study guide. Our hope and prayer is that in discovering the world of the Bible, you will encounter the Living God.

Now get ready for a fascinating and life-changing journey.

How to Use This Study Guide

This study guide is designed for use with the Ten Keys for Unlocking the Bible video series.

Each study begins by Setting the Scene. This will show you where you are in the Bible story and give you some helpful background information. You may want to read this section before viewing the video, or you may choose to skip it altogether.

Following Along provides an outline for each presentation that will help you to remember what you have learned. You may like to add your own notes on these pages.

Discussing Together will help your group to interact with the main points of the presentation and apply the Bible's teaching to your own life. Discussion is an important and enjoyable aspect of the Ten Keys study. You should feel free to share your questions and insights during this time. Everyone in the group has something to offer. But don't feel under any pressure. Some people are more comfortable sitting back and taking it all in.

Building the Story gives a one-sentence summary of the topic you have just covered. These summaries will help you to see how the Bible fits together. You will find it helpful to review these points from time to time as you progress through the study. A complete list of the Building the Story points can be found on pages 107-108.

The Ten Keys study does not require any advance preparation, but the Looking Ahead section previews what is coming; so if you would like, you may read the relevant chapter from the Bible before your next session.
