About this ebook

From R. Barri Flowers, award-winning writer and bestselling author of the Leila Kahana Maui Mysteries and Eddie Naku Maui Mysteries, comes the second installment of the compelling Maui contemporary novelette series, Kaanapali Beach Paradise.

Set amidst the lush playground of Maui, Hawaii's famed Kaanapali Beach Resort, the soap opera style tale of adultery, ambition, dark secrets, love, lust, hate, romance, betrayal, revenge, and murder, revolve around the anticipated grand opening of the Kaanapali Palms Hotel, the latest luxury accommodation on this three mile-long ocean front stretch of paradise on the island's western shore.

Multimillionaire real estate investor and CEO of Kaanapali Palms, Ben Crawford, is not above getting in bed with organized crime to make his dream come true. A widower, his 19-year-old daughter, Leigh, means everything to him. Forgotten is the child he abandoned long ago, never imagining this would come back to haunt him.

Leigh Crawford is gorgeous, spoiled, precocious, and primarily looking to have fun at her daddy's new luxury hotel. After meeting super-hot Hawaiian chauffeur, Masami, things get hot in a hurry. Will they crash land or could there actually be a future for them?

Yoshiko Pelayo is a stunning Hawaiian journalist, who has taken a job in housekeeping at the Kaanapali Palms while plotting vengeance against Ben Crawford, the father she never knew.

Stewart McGann is a retired police detective from Portland, Oregon. After getting hurt on the job, he is brought to Maui to head the security at Kaanapali Palms. The offer is made easier by his attraction to housekeeper, Yoshiko, even if he senses there is more to her than meets the eye.

Kalani and Rosita Okamura own the fabulous Shoreline Lounge in Kaanapali, while hiding secrets of adultery from one another and more.

Genevieve Roswell, an aspiring musician, fled San Francisco after testifying against her drug dealing boyfriend and ended up on Maui. Now her past is about to catch up to her.

Donnie Ortega has a job to do--make sure the one who helped put his homey away gets what is coming to her. And he fully intends to complete the task, whatever it takes.

Eugene Keebler is a janitor at the Kaanapali Palms and a smalltime hood. He sees the grand opening as a golden opportunity to rob the place, with the help of his crooked friends.

Kaanapali Beach Paradise, Part 2 in this continuing series, promises to keep readers engaged as lives and loves are turned upside down with intriguing twists at every turn amidst the grandeur of a world famous Hawaii beach resort.

Bonus material includes a complete romance short story, "Passions on Maui," and excerpts from R. Barri Flowers' bestselling and upcoming Hawaii mystery novels, Dead in Kihei, Murder of the Hula Dancers, and Murder on the Big Island.

    KAANAPALI BEACH PARADISE, PART 2

Donnie Ortega deliberately made himself scarce when the person he had been trailing nearly made him. The last thing he wanted to do was spook her into pulling another vanishing act. At least not until it was time for her to vanish for good.

He slipped inside one of the hotels on Kaanapali Beach and wandered around, while making sure she hadn't foolishly followed him. Once he was convinced of that, he found an isolated spot and took out his cell phone.

He called his homey, Cooper Romero, who was currently in the state pen in California doing time for drug dealing. Cooper had bribed a crooked guard to smuggle in a cell phone. Apart from conducting his business on the outside, he needed it to keep in touch on the efforts to find his ex-girlfriend, Genevieve Roswell, the bitch who threw him under the bus to save her own ass.

She had fled town shortly thereafter and had, at one point, seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Cooper had recruited him to find her, no matter what rock she was hiding under or how far she went to escape justice.

For a while, Donnie honestly believed tracking her down was a lost cause. But dogged determination and some less than gentle persuasion in getting one of her girlfriends to reveal her whereabouts had done the trick.

I found her, Donnie said proudly.

    Where? Cooper asked with interest.

Hawaii. She's tucked away on Maui.

While I'm stuck here in this hell hole, Cooper grumbled. Is she there alone?

She's been hanging out with some old Asian dude, Donnie responded, casting his dark eyes at a shapely raven-haired woman passing by. He waited till she had put some distance between them, before continuing. I wouldn't be surprised if Genevieve gave him a heart attack.

Yeah, she knows how to get a man off and then some, Cooper snorted satirically, and coughed into the phone. Does she know you're there?

Not yet. I've been careful to lay low.

Good. Wish I could be there to see the look on her pretty face when she realizes that her days of living the good life on the beach are over for good.

Yeah, she brought this on herself, Donnie agreed unsympathetically.

Damn right she did, Cooper spat. You know what you need to do. Call me when the job is done.

    Donnie sighed. Will do.

Cooper disconnected and Donnie mused about taking out his ex. After
