Love Out Loud - George Clerie

    Introduction

This little devotional was written because 85 people had their lives changed on a road trip in 2008. We embarked on a 25-day journey with a single purpose of loving people in Jesus’ name. was called the Love Out Loud Tour. We traveled from San Diego to Washington DC and back. In 25 years of ministry I’ve never seen anything like it. It was the simplicity of their loving acts of kindness that so powerfully touched the lives of those they encountered.

One example of this happened in Dallas Fort Worth. We were doing a free car wash at a local gas station and a couple of the students walked across the street to O’Riley’s Auto Part Store. They approached the owner and asked if they could clean up the trash around his building, wash his windows, and clean his restrooms. The owner skeptically agreed and watched as the students joyfully set about these tasks. When they were finished, he asked in amazement why they had been so kind. They responded, We’re here from San Diego and God sent us to let you know that Jesus loves you. The man began to cry.

You see, his store had been robbed at gunpoint earlier that week. He was feeling defeated and discouraged and just the night before he had prayed a simple prayer. God if you are real would You show me a sign that You care. The next day 85 students from the Horizon School of Evangelism showed up with one purpose, to love him in Jesus' name. Supernatural encounters happened like this every day as we made ourselves available to simply love out loud.

My prayer is that this little devotional will help you embark on your own personal Love Out Loud Tour. Each day you will discover a new principle to fuel your journey and a simple challenge to help set you in motion. Over the next thirty days I pray you will come to know God’s love, grow in His love, and step out in faith to show His love to others. May your life be transformed by the love of Jesus and may that transformation change the lives of everyone you encounter.

    Part One:

    LOVE out loud

Day 1: All you need is LOVE

If I have not love, I am nothing. 1 Cor. 13:2 – What do John Lennon and Paul the Apostle have in common? They both wrote that All you need is love. But that’s about all they have in common. For starters, Paul the Apostle wrote it almost 2,000 years before John Lennon did. Lennon wrote about human love. Paul wrote about God’s love. Lennon wrote trite sentiments. Paul wrote everlasting truth. In fact, in 1 Corinthians 13:1-3, Paul makes three of the most powerful statements about love ever penned and gives us great insight into what real love actually is and the importance of having it as the foundation of our lives.

The first powerful truth he shares with us is that love is more than just words. It’s not enough to just talk about love. It is the heart you say it with that really matters. Even if you speak with the eloquence of angels, but don’t have love, Paul affirms that you’re just making noise.

The second powerful truth is that love is more than just being knowledgeable or spiritual. Even if we have advanced degrees, can quote whole chapters of the Bible from memory, prophesy and have great faith, but don’t have love, Paul says we are nothing. Knowing all the right things, or being a super-saint doesn’t mean squat if we don’t have love.

The third powerful truth is that love is more than sacrifice. Even if we give everything we owned to the poor and sacrificed our bodies to be burned, and don’t do it in love, it will make no difference; there would be no profit in it. You could be the biggest philanthropist on the planet, burn yourself out serving others, and if you don’t have the right heart, you will waste your time and money.
