About this ebook

Dr. Malak Shahzed moved to the small town of Goodfields for a quiet practice and a chance to leave his other life behind. Finding kind and handsome Sheriff Shiloh Payne is a bonus. Their relationship is mostly stolen glances and innocent meetings, but Malak wants to play doctor with Shiloh—if the sheriff feels the same.

All is not well in Goodfields. After each PTA meeting, the body of a single man is found torn apart by a wild animal, and the town is getting nervous.

Murder is complicating Malak’s seduction of Shiloh, especially since he knows more than he is willing to admit. Because sane people don’t believe in werewolves…. Do they?

When a book blurb in a paranormal collection refers to someone’s past as “leaving his other life behind”, consider my curiosity piqued. There is plenty of mystery around what kind of shifter Malak is, and only a few hints until the final reveal. There is also a series of murders that needs to be solved, an intriguing sheriff, and some cross-cultural perspective due to Malak being a Muslim and a vegetarian. The result is an unusual murder mystery with some paranormal overtones and some interesting macho posturing when a friend of Malak’s arrives on the scene to “help”.

Malak wants a quiet life so he has left his past behind and moved to a small town. All he wants is some peace and quiet, but it doesn’t look as if he’ll be getting it anytime soon. He is a doctor, and the smaller practice suits him well, but the series of murders that seem connected to the PTA meetings are not at all to his liking. He has fallen for Shiloh, the local sheriff, but has no idea if his interest is returned. Malak already suspects what kind of murderer they are facing, and it all comes to a head when an old friend of his appears on the scene to help.

If you like murder mysteries with a supernatural touch, if two men who are unsure about their attraction sound like an interesting pairing, and if you’re looking for a suspenseful read, then you might like this novella.
