About this ebook

Adventurer Lance Desmond needs to produce a fortune before his arch-rival collects the bounty on his head. He risks an ancient curse to retrieve treasure hidden within icebound Castle Cavanaugh, only to become trapped inside. Not with the gold he so desperately needs, but with medieval Princess Marigold who's been cooling her heels since...well, medieval times.

The lonely princess refuses to acknowledge the blossoming attraction between them. Not just because she deserves a better future than a penniless rogue. But because at midnight, he'll vanish like all her other would-be heroes. And the evergreen in the parlor will have one more figurine hanging from its boughs...

Entertaining good, fast read. At first I was disturbed by the fact there was no real explanation of where, when or how the world worked. Then I decided to just go with the flow and enjoy the story. The characters and story was fun and different. Loved the premise of the ice castle. Will read more by this author.

Well, not sure what to say about this book. What I found difficult to accept is the world that the book took place in. And if you just don't believe the world created then its hard to get into the book. The world that the author created was I guess? in our time period but with characters using swords and magic. A lot of current brand items and slang used but also possibly futuristic. It was very confusing and bothered me the entire read. To me, it felt like a fan-fiction type world where all the things the author liked, make believe and real life, were all jumbled into a world that the reader should accept at face value. No explanation, no introduction into that world. When you take that world out of the story its an ok paranormal romance however it was a tad predictable and contained gratuitous sex scenes. If you like this author and like tales where you don't care about the world build then you will may like this book.Received this book via LibraryThing.com Member Giveaway for my honest review.

Let it Snow by Erica Ridley

Lance Desmond tries to get a treasure inside of Castle Cavanaugh, risking an ancient curse. He becomes trapped inside with (Medieval) Princess Marigold. But Marigold tries to deny her feelings for Lance, since no one has made it past midnight. All the other men just vanished.

I liked Lance, he being from present time, and Marigold is likable as well. she is innocent, naive and very impressed with some of the modern things Lance has with him.

The paring or the two is clever, watching them interact was enjoyable. They are faced with several problems, one being getting out of the Castle alive. I liked the original plot, it was interesting, captivating, an fun to see how it all unfolds.

I recommend Let it Snow to those who love a great (romantic) fantasy.

Let It Snow by Erica Ridleyno chapter 10?Wasn't prepared for this book. Thought it'd be a nice snowy read. It starts out with Lance Desmond who's returned to his house and his friend shows him devices that might interest him. He's now on a quest to find a bloom in the Castle Cavanaugh. This tale is one from many times: magical, mythical, mixed in latest up to date. Funny at times when he's talking to others that have come through a portal using modern English phrases.Princess Marigold must not become his friend or he will vanish within hours like the others.Mercenary knight who's buying a pirate ship, has a smartphone but no wifi and likes candycrush.Marigold has quite a tale as to why she's in the castle, day of her birthday and no furniture...He would make her birthday and Christmas wishes come true before they both got back to his real world...Lance had brought many things with him, perhaps he has the knowledge to beat the curse of the castle...Lots of surprises and sex. Bit far fetched for meI received this book from the author.

Let It Snow is a wonderful, quick story about a Princess held captive by time and a modern day Knight's rescue. Judging by the cover alone, this book was not what I expected. But it is still an amazing read, regardless. Ridley is able to craft a world so intriguing that you continue turning pages to learn more and more about it. The blending of old and new flow together seamlessly. And the characters showcase their personalities perfectly even though the story is short. This will be a perfect Sunday read for anyone wanting to experience something new!**I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to the author and/or publisher.

A fun and delightful read!I loved this story. It made me smile as I followed the adventure of Lance, a knight living in a modern world where magic is an everyday part of life. Desperate to pay his mortgage AND the bounty on his head Lance heads off to find the Golden Bloom of Eternal Life and finds instead Princess Marigold who's been trapped in a castle since Medieval times by a curse. Together the two become a formidable team as they try to break the curse - and along the way get to the next level of Candy Crush on Lance's Iphone. The quirky humorous characters really made the story for me. I look forward to reading more by Erica Ridley. Note this is an adult fairytale as our delightful duo become intimate while searching for the way out of the castle. It's a great read at an excellent price and one not to be missed!I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Let It Snow takes an innovative spin on the maiden trapped by a curse and a brave knight searching for treasure. Lance enters the bewitched castle easily, but can't find the treasure. Princess Marigold has been trapped for centuries, met adventurers over the years and is aware of time passing. She has no expectations that Lance will be any more successful than the previous treasure hunters. The dialogue is witty, the resolution to break the curse is clever, and the disparity between the expectations of the modern adventurer, Lance and the medieval princess is fun. I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic modern fairy tale, another delightful romance from Erica Ridley.

This is the third book I have received by Erica Ridly from LibraryThing and it is just as funny and sweet as the first two. I feel like the author took me back to being a little girl, fantasizing about fairy tales and happily ever afters. Then puts an adult spin on it. Lance was charming and funny. He really helped lighten the mood when Marigold was worrying about getting too close to him. I feel like this is a good go-to author when you need a pick-me up because at the end of each of the books I've read by her I am left with a goofy and satisfied smile on my face.

*I received this through a LibraryThing giveaway.*Lance Desmond is a modern day knight with a bounty on his head. To pay off his debt he sets out on a mission to infiltrate the cursed Castle Cavanaugh and find the priceless 'Golden Bloom of Youth.' When he gets there, instead of finding a dragon or a rabid yeti defending the castle, he finds it frozen in ice and snow and there is no treasure in sight. In fact the whole castle is eerily deserted except for the beautiful Princess Marigold who has been trapped in Castle Cavanaugh for the last 600 years. Now trapped inside the castle together, Lance and Marigold seek a way to break the curse while learning that perhaps even a cursed castle can feel like home when shared with the right person. This novella is short and sweet and I truly enjoyed it. The characters are well drawn for a novella and likeable. Although Marigold has been trapped in the castle for centuries, she is by no means the typical damsel in distress. Instead she has found inner strength and used her time to read, learn to paint, etc. I loved that about her. The love story is sweet, the adventure fun, and everything comes together beautifully. Highly recommend.

This is the story of a fairy-tale princess trapped in a castle of ice waiting to be rescued by an unlikely prince charming. The Christmas tree that gains new ornaments each night at the stroke of midnight is an interesting idea. However, this story lacks sophistication and the characters are a little one dimensional. You sympathise with the princess being trapped and the young man does his best to treat her like any young woman, but nothing is achieved, there is no real development. It is pleasant and inoffensive but nothing special or memorable.

3.5/5 stars. I adored this sweetly humorous book about the cursed Princess Marigold and adventurer Lance Desmond who stumbles into her castle--and her curse--searching for treasure. Marigold is reluctant to get to know him because she's afraid that he will be trapped by her curse and will vanish overnight as the castle resets itself. But he doesn't vanish and he has a chocolate bar in his pocket so Marigold and Lance enjoy Christmas Eve and her birthday while planning for the rest of their (cursed?) lives.

Based on the cover art and book blurb, I expected a short and light holiday-themed fantasy type story with a medieval knight and some magic. So it wasn’t surprising that I was totally confused right from the start of the book when things like planes and skyscrapers were mentioned. The whole beginning of the book was a mishmash of disparate elements that just didn’t connect well. I started to question exactly where and when this story was taking place. After about 10% into the story I had to restart it to try and make sense of what was happening. Well, the second time through was still confusing but I finally determined it was taking place in a modern world. I think the author must have been trying to create her own quirky little alternate fantasy world that mixes modern world technology with magic. Nothing wrong with that, but it wasn’t done well and turned out to be a fail for me. Even when you create your own world, it has to make some sense to be believable, especially when you use a lot of real-life names, cultural references, events, etc. So here are some examples of why I felt the world building was a hot mess.- As noted at the beginning, I went into this story thinking it was a medieval historical type fantasy story only to promptly have my expectations come crashing down. The cover art and blurb can really set the tone of the story, and in this case it is the wrong tone.- The very first sentence mentions Lance’s sword, which cemented by expectation of a medieval story. Then the next sentence mentions planes and skyscrapers. Huh?- Lance lives above a “hovel of ill repute” called the Pawn & Potion. Well, a house of ill repute, is generally a euphemism for a brothel, but Pawn & Potion sounds like a magic shop, which is what it is. Apparently it caters to “all walks of life” but nothing happens to give the sense of that atmosphere and most certainly wasn't a brothel.- The story mentions that it is Christmas Eve. There is also a mention of going to midnight mass and churches with the best choirs. Yet at the same time he mentions “gods”. What’s wrong with this picture? For example: It was three o’clock in the morning, Christmas Eve. And if the gods were with him, maybe he could sleep straight through to the new year…. The gods it seemed, were not with him.- There is a bounty on Lance's head put there by the rajah. Wait, rajah? When did we go to India? Where is this story set? I assumed with castles and a Christmas celebrating society we were in some old world European setting.- Oh, but wait… the rajah’s name is Ivan Radko. Ookay then, a Russian rajah?- The bounty on Lance’s head is 10,000 drachmas. So now we have a rajah with an eastern European sounding name asking for a bounty in Greek currency. Did I already ask where this story takes place? - Lance had the money to pay off the bounty (null and void for 100,000 drachmas) but he spent it on a pirate ship (yes, I said pirate ship), so he decides to go after a mythical treasure hidden in the cursed Castle Cavanaugh.- At the end of the book there is a mention of coming back at Thanksgiving, a distinctly North American holiday. As far as I know there are no medieval castles in North America. So again I ask… where da fuq does this book take place?Note: the majority of the above happens within the first 2-3% into the book. - Besides all of the above, the book is riddled throughout with a number of cultural references and brand names, such as: Ritalin, night-vision goggles, e-readers, Batsuit, Facebook, infomercial, Slim Jim, Play-Doh, Mario, Candy Crush, Andy Warhol, Snickers bars, twerk, hip-hop booty dance, smartphones, Groundhog Day, Curious George, Houdini, and Jedi. Phew! I’m sure I missed a few.A very strange and confusing world indeed. So I persevered through this confusing mess of a beginning and once Lance got trapped in the castle, it started to be a little less confusing. This is where the story starts to turn more towards the light holiday fairy tale I was expecting. Lance turned out to be quite attentive and considerate to Marigold as they try to find a way to escape the castle before he turns into a Christmas ornament at midnight like all the other adventurers before him.One point of contention with this part of the story I had (and this is one of my book pet peeves) was that it was made clear that Marigold was virgin but when it got to the sex scene between them, it was totally glossed over. Neither Lance nor Marigold or the scene itself makes any reference to it. Considering how attentive and considerate Lance was being to Marigold, it felt out of character for him not to show any concern. So overall, the world-building was a confusing mess, but I was able to finish the story and liked it enough for the most part once Lance got to the castle. It ended up being a sweet little holiday fairy tale, though nothing exceptional, once I got past the beginning. However, the problems with the beginning and the story not matching some minimal expectation based on the cover and blurb kind of killed the story for me. If the world building had been better, and made more sense, I would probably have given this novella a higher rating.~~~Heat Level: Sensual with light spice – a couple of brief scenes that do not fade to black but are not overly explicit.Word Count: approx. 34,180 (including back matter) - NovellaPrint Length: approx. 180 pgsKindle Locations: 1597 (1710 with back matter)Story text ends at 93%Includes Table of ContentsSource: LibraryThing Giveway

I’m finding myself liking Christmas more and more these days. Or maybe it’s because I’ve read lots of Christmas stories lately. Hmmm…Still, I can now openly admit that no other Christmas story can compare to those written by the one and only Erica Ridley. Either the woman was blessed by the spirit of Christmas itself, or she’s Mrs. Claus in disguise out to bring some holiday cheer to readers. Whichever it is, I must say her books are sure to be re-read in the future.Lance Desmond is many things. A free man. An adventurer. And a man who’s… wanted – dead or alive. So, what’s a fellow to do when he needs to save his own hide? Why, he goes after a mythical cursed treasure, of course! Only, this particular treasure isn’t what he expected. And while being stuck in the same castle as beautiful Princess Marigold does have its perks, Lance doesn’t intend to stay caged for the rest of his life inside four walls. Now it’s up to this reckless man to wise up and use all his wits to break Castle Cavanaugh’s curse – and free the Golden Bloom of Eternal Youth forever.Erica Ridley seems to be a master of fun, fairytale-like atmosphere. And couples that compliment each other. Personally, when it came to this book’s couple, I was reminded of Rapunzel and Flynn...And let me tell you, they’re my favorite Disney couple! (I wonder how Lance would feel about that?)Anyway, they were fantastic! Funny, quirky, and couldn’t make me bored even if they tried. Plus, they show character development – how cool is that, huh?! Marigold was a spoiled little girl, who grew up to be an amazing, strong-willed, intelligent woman. And Lance decided to become a little more serious and adult-like – in other words, the guy of this unusal relationship – once he realized their freedom was at stake.See what a nice, good ol’ curse and some pressure can do to people? What made this story weird was Lance’s lines in some dialogues. As a geek, I had no problem keeping up with him, but to anyone else who isn’t on the same level, Lance can seem like a walking encyclopedia of all that is geeky and weird. However, I can’t ignore the fact that he has a certain way with words – not exactly smooth, but, heck, I give the guy some serious credit on originality!Having already read Midwinter Magic , I found Mrs. Ridley’s humor to be very close to my personal taste. Still, she managed to shock me. This book, though written by her as well, seemed different. It’s like she changed her way of “showing”, yet maintained her own voice and hilariousness – which was a major bonus, if you ask me. Show me a writer that can change tactics and keep their style, and tell me that actually bored you – I dare you!As you can guess, you can’t – no one can. And this is why this bookworm here is officially a fan girl – yes, Erica, you have a fan in me! Because keeping your readers interested and on their toes is what distinguishes a good writer from what I like to call, a “Keeper”.***I was given a review copy from a LibraryThing Member Giveaway in exchange for an honest review. Let It Snow is the first story I’ve read by Erica Ridley, and it was a real treat! Lance Desmond is a fortune hunter with a bounty on his head. In order to pay off his debts, he decides to infiltrate Castle Cavanaugh to recover the fabled Golden Bloom of Eternal Youth. He makes it through the frigid cold and snow-filled trek to find the castle open and without guards. Even though he senses it may be a trap he enters the castle, only to be imprisoned inside with the Golden Bloom, a person rather than an object. Princess Marigold has been trapped alone in the castle for centuries, the victim of a curse, with each day resetting as it began the day before. While she can see outside of the castle she can never leave. Those few who have come to the castle over the centuries are likewise bound by the curse. Lance is determined to get them both out of the castle but that is, as one would expect, easier said than done. There is also the mystery of what happened to everyone else in the castle the day Marigold was cursed, as well as those who came after, and why she fears Lance, too, will be gone at day’s end. I read this story pretty much straight through; it caught my attention immediately and had some really interesting twists. I recommend Let it Snow, and will be looking for more works from this author. This book was received free with the request for an honest review.

Let it snow is well written and interesting I read it in one night. It is an interesting plot, though the setting is quirky. I enjoyed the character development and interaction for the most part. That being said the sex scenes where a little to detailed for my taste, I like to share my books and would not hand one like this to somebody else. Besides that I, have to admit I am not a romance fan so that I finished it quickly and reviewed it says something, but I would put in the warning that this is not a child’s are even teen reading material.

Erica Ridley’s story of a present day swashbuckling mercenary with a bounty on his head out to find money is a fun Christmas read more like an adult fairy tale than a serious romance. Lance sets out to find the eternal bloom located in an enchanted castle from which nobody has ever returned. He makes it to and into the castle without much difficulty only to find himself stuck with no way to get out AND he finds he not alone but that there is a beautiful princess inside with him that has been stuck there for 600 years. In some ways this is like the movie Groundhog Day with the same day repeating itself over and over. In some ways it is like the story of Sleeping Beauty and a castle that sleeps till the enchantment is broken. Since it is a romance and fiction all does come right in the end. If you are looking for a Christmas fairy tale with a happy ending this is the book for you.

After having read this, I am still undecided about whether I like it or not. This is a fantasy, fairy tale romance about super hero Lance and Princess Marigold. Lance has a bounty on his head and decided to penetrate the impenetrable icebound Castle Cavanaugh to find the treasure hidden within. However, once inside, he finds he is trapped there. Also inside the castle is Princess Marigold, who, because of a curse, has been cooling her heels there since medieval times, waiting for her Prince Charming. The castle is perpetually decorated for Christmas, and, today, Christmas Eve, if he lasts, because of the curse Lance will vanish like all her other heroes—and become one more figurine hanging on the tree. Marigold cannot bear to see that happen again, so tries to hold off her attraction. Can the two of them defy the curse? Can Lance find the hidden treasure he seeks? This story is a mixture of olden times (castles, swords, etc.) and today (Facebook, smart phones, Candy Crush, etc.), which provided interest and delight to me. The fact that there was a real mélange of past and present made it all the more interesting and unique for me. I loved the way the author set things up for the story. It is definitely different from most of what I have read and currently am reading. The author also tries to put a positive spin on things by having the characters hope/wish/try to change the other becomes a better person, taking a chance on love and letting go of the past. The setting and characters are well done and definitely held my interest. This story will appeal to anyone looking for a quick, romantic tale about love to read during or away from the holidays, which is definitely not like others you can find everywhere. I received this from Library Thing to read and review.
