      Summary:This book is about a king who has trouble falling asleep. Instead of falling asleep he vowed that he would watch over his daughter and find the perfect prince for her. However, he found a problem with every prince that came along. The princes realized that if they could get the king to fall asleep then they would be able to talk to the princess. All of the princes tried everything to get the king to sleep, but nothing worked. Then one day a farmer came along and brought a different amount of animals each day. Eventually, he claimed that he brought 100 sheep and the king didn’t believe him so the king tried to count each sheep. The counting process made the king fall asleep and the farmer was able to talk to the princess. The princess and farmer ended up getting married and the king never had sleeping problems again. Review: I thought this book was a creative way to incorporate the myth about counting sheep to fall asleep. Therefore, the main message of this book was to inform the reader how this myth came to be. I really liked how it incorporated a farmer getting to married to a princess instead of a prince because it was unique and different than a traditional fairytale. It was also creative how the farmer would trick the king by saying he brought a certain amount of animals, but really he brought less than what he said so the king wouldn’t believe him. This made the king questionable about the sheep which eventually made the king fall asleep because he wanted to be sure the farmer was telling the truth. Overall, I really thought this was a cute story and very creative.
