Ernest's crocodile does not bite! It's very well trained. But when Ernest brings the crocodile to the school's pet show, his rival Cindy Lou gets very rude.
Cindy Lou is sure her poodle Fifi will win best in show. She doesn't think Ernest's croc should be allowed to compete. But Ernest and his friend have some tricks prepared. They're going to prove that when a crocodile's not busy biting, it can really put on a show!

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Ernest brings his very well-trained pet crocodile, Gustave, to school for the annual pet show. But snooty Cindy Lou, dead set on her toy poodle stealing the show, insists time and again that Ernest's croc is a dangerous threat! Just how many times will Ernest have to assure the rest of the school that his crocodile does not bite? The art mashes together cartoony and semi-realistic sensibilities to create a distinct painterly style. Sometimes the character poses come across as stiff - Mrs.Brown's dancing, for instance - but over all the style works well. The end seems alarming and out of sorts with the rest of the book, until one sees the final page, and realizes that Cindy Lou was not in any danger after all. The shock of her fate, prior to that last page, makes for a startling twist.
