American Mayhem: Episode Two - It's a Lawless World and You're in It.

About this ebook
I often wonder that if complete chaos broke out across the nation, what would I do? Could I protect myself and would my daughter be safe? Watching my favorite shows like The Walking Dead I see the romanticized version of survival when on the next channel I see real people getting shot, cities on fire and destruction replacing peace. These stories are very real and unlike my favorite show, there is nothing romantic about it for me.
I think about my daughter's life compared to my childhood thirty years ago, when violence and fear were not dominant factors in the lives of children. I think about my own future. I can't help but feel I have been hiding behind a false sense of security, trying to believe that my own little world is far removed from all of the chaos. But times have changed, people have changed, and the chaos is closing in.
What would happen if like in The Walking Dead, we lived a fight for survival? What if today's reality of comforts and securities were just a memory? American Mayhem is a story that delves into that very-possible outcome.

American Mayhem - Mackenzie Stark
Chapter One - Madness in the City
It all happened so quickly, or so it would appear. With all the rumors out of control and the possible FANS breakdown, society seemed to fall into complete chaos. Formal security and the police force are collapsing and the criminals are running rampant. The people in the small town of Baytower, North Carolina, attempt to gather in the elementary school, now deemed a safe house by the mayor. Unsure of what is coming their way, the idea is to stick together.
Todd Johnston and Steve Wiley immediately left Baytower following the town hall meeting where they reviewed recent events and set up proactive safety tactics in case any of the rumors came knocking. The two men left to fetch their daughters, who both attend the college in the city.
Having made it through many confusing obstacles, Todd and Steve arrive at the college. They are standing outside Laney’s dorm room where they find her door secured. The rooms they passed to get there all seem to have been unlocked so they find this a little bit disturbing. They knock but nobody answers.
Now, what is this?
Todd more yells than asks as he stares at his daughter’s door. Then, without any hesitation, he takes a step back, pulls his 38 out from behind his shirt and kicks through the door with his right leg.
At first glance, the room seems to be tidy and otherwise normal, but as they enter they see Julia Shepard to the right, curled up in a ball on the floor by the closet. Todd has met Laney’s roommate before when Laney brought her home over a weekend for some home cooking and to do laundry. The two just moved in together and got along great. Todd rushes over to her. She is shaking and crying.
Julia, what happened here? Where is Laney?
Todd starts probing immediately. Steve quietly kneels down next to Todd.
Mr. Johnston!
Julia wipes her eyes and attempts to explain, It all happened so fast, Laney wasn’t here. There was the shooting and everybody seemed to be all over the place. I was out running on the track and didn’t find out anything until I was done. I came back for my phone and things, and nobody was here. That’s when I saw Laney’s note about being evacuated to the campus bookstore,
she hands Todd the note, but I heard more shooting…I didn’t know what to do and was too afraid to go back outside!
Julia puts her head into her knees and starts sobbing all over again.
She is a sweet girl from Texas, but Todd needs answers; he is thinking fast about what has happened and what they should do. He reads Laney’s note to Julia.
Julia – Being evacuated to the bookstore. Heading there to meet Jess and Kelly. Meet us there! We can catch a ride with them back to Baytower on their way home.
