About this ebook
St Mary's is back and is facing a battle to survive in this, the fourth instalment of the Chronicles. Max and Leon are re-united and looking forward to a peaceful lifetime together. But, sadly, they don't even make it to lunchtime. The action races from 17th century London to Ancient Egypt and from Pompeii to 14th century Southwark as they're pursued up and down the timeline, playing a perilous game of hide and seek until they're finally forced to take refuge at St Mary's - where new dangers await them. As usual, there are plenty of moments of humour, but the final, desperate, Battle of St Mary's is in grim earnest. Overwhelmed and outnumbered and with the building crashing down around them, how can St Mary's possibly survive? So, make sure the tea's good and strong...

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I enjoyed this follow up to the 3rd book, and it did really integrate you back into the story well, but I found it not as fun as the other books. It didn't pull me in as much. There was a lot of things just all over the place and it didn't feel like a cohesive story. I did enjoy how it all came together, but during the chaos it just felt like a mess.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Max and Leon are reunited in this fourth novel in the series but before they can celebrate the reunion, the Time Police burst into Leon's home just minutes after there escape. The pair are chased throughout history from 17th century London to Ancient Egypt and from Pompeii to 14th century Southwark until they find refuge back at St. Mary's. However, respite will be short since a confrontation with the Time Police is inevitable.I continue to enjoy this series and plan to continue until the last one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The fourth book in the St. Mary's Chronicles picks up right where the third book left off, with Madeleine "Max" Maxwell in an alternate dimension with Chief Leon Farrell still living and her the one who died. They are immediately on the run from the Time Police, who - no matter when Max and Leon jump to - find them within the hour and are pursuing them for reasons unknown.I have been highly enjoying this madcap, adventurous, humorous, time-traveling romp. My town doesn't love science fiction as a rule, but this genre bending tale hits the spot with a lot of people and I enlisted a few fellow librarians to help me recommend it to others so the whole series has been flying off the shelves. This book is more of the same, and really was fun to read right after the holidays when I'm about as brain dead as could be.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another very good book in this excellent series. Alternate Max pingpongs through the centuries pursued by the Time Police. Many trials and fortunately just as many escapes moves everything back to Dt Mary's forthe final cataclysmic battle featuring pistols, ladles, crossbows and is concluded by a volley of loaded condums.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Our fourth installment of the Chronicles of St. Mary's finds the intrepid Max and Leon reunited -- in a way uniquely their own -- in a tumble across the timelines to save the venerable St. Mary's, the pile of stones which is home to time traveling historians. And the survival of St, Mary's is very much in question. A major battle looms which could spell the end. Fast moving and addictive. This is a series which really must read in order. Major thanks to all those who forced this onto my reading list.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The historians of St. Mary's are at it again! This book continues the fun romp through history of the previous books. Just as fun and entertaining as the others.I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator continues to be perfect for the part.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great fun as always, although I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first three St Mary's books. This book almost feels like a bridge between the events that have happened previously and what is yet to come. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Time traveling, universe-hopping historians chased by Time Cops!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5There's nothing I can add to the praise being heaped on the fourth installment of The Chronicles of St. Mary's. Still historians making fun of techies, and techies making fun of historians as they work together to jump through history. Only to observe ... ahem. As Rocket J. Squirrel would say, "That trick never works."There's some serious mayhem going on in A Trail Through Time and Max and Leon pull through it, only to leave us in limbo again. To say anymore would be to spoil this lively adventure which revolves around saving St. Mary's in one of the timelines. Explosions abound. Yup, I loved it and already crave the next episode.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5If this was written by a 14 year old schoolgirl, well then...but as it isn't....
It's been a long time since I've been confronted with
such a childish attempt to be funny (?),witty..
Of course, it doesn't help that the main character is so persistently annoying.
No,this really doesn't work for me. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I didn't enjoy this one as much, mainly because it suffers from Action Hero Syndrome- the number of awful and physically damaging things that happen to Max in quick succession are incredible, and her ability to keep going despite them is unbelievable, in the literal sense.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked this one a lot more that the last one in the series (which almost made me give up on the series, such a downer). In this one the lovers are, in a sense, reunited, or at least, getting their heart's desire. There's lots of actions, quite a bit of history, some tragedy and some fun. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Trail Through Time is the fourth book of a fascinating historical fiction/time travel series. Madeleine Maxwell is a historian at St. Mary's where they jump through the timeline to “investigate major historical events in contemporary time.” I won't even give a hint of what this one is about because events that happened in Book Three, a Second Chance, are referenced numerous times and would only serve as a spoiler for this book.
The characters travel to some interesting places including ancient Egypt and Pompeii during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The book is a great combination of mystery, historical fiction, and zany humor. We are also introduced to some new villains. I have listened to all four of the series in audio, narrated by the phenomenal Zara Ramm. I can't imagine anyone else doing such a wonderful job and highly recommend the audiobook versions if you can get them. The entire series is quite unique and Jodi Taylor continues to weave engaging stories that keep me coming back. I can't wait to get the next book in the series, No Time Like the Past. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Rating: 4.5* of fiveThe Publisher Says: St Mary’s is back and is facing a battle to survive in this, the fourth instalment of the Chronicles. So, make sure the tea’s good and strong… My Review: This was a satisfactory entry into the ongoing series of time-travel themed novels. Several important developments occur and are contextualized. A high-stakes event is played out in such a way as to leave the reader in some doubt as to its outcome.I passed an evening in the company of St Mary's. Perchance you would like to do the same.
