    Chapter One: Introduction

    Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee was first published on 14th of July, 2015. It is the author’s second published novel. Before this novel, Harper Lee had written the Pulitzer Prize winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird.

    The title of the book Go Set a Watchman comes from Isaiah 21: 6: For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth. The central theme of the book is disillusionment.

    There is no doubt that the novel shows Harper Lee’s craft as a writer, and about that there is no dispute. However, in this book she seems to be probing several moral questions. The other themes that the author explores throughout the story are sexism and racism.

    Chapter Two: Plot Overview

    The central character Jean Louise ‘Scout’ Finch has been presented again by the author in this novel. She is now twenty six years old.

    As the novel opens, she comes back from New York to the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama. It is her annual visit that lasts for two weeks.

    Having come back to the place where she had spent her childhood, she meets her childhood sweetheart and suitor, Henry ‘Hank’ Clinton. Now, Henry works for her father, Atticus, who happens to be a lawyer and former state legislator.

    Jack is her father’s brother. He happens to be a retired doctor. He is Jean’s mentor. Aunt Alexandra, her father’s sister, runs the house since the retirement of Calpurnia.

    The community is still facing certain problems although things have changed a lot since she for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) are introduced as sources of controversy in was last here. The Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education decision and the National Association the community.

    Jean Louise and Finch take a trip to Finch’s Landing. While they are coming back to the town, suddenly a car passes by. There are some black men in that car and they are driving at a very dangerous high speed.
