Chapter 1
In this chapter you’ll learn what types of continuing series you can create and write. However, before I get into that I thought I’d give you some background on my own experience with series writing and how each of them came to be…
My first series, Perfect Pairing is a paranormal one featuring a recurring character named Sadie Sutton. This series didn’t begin as paranormal, and it didn’t even begin as a series…well, at least not my own one.
My critique partner had created a series for a publisher and suggested I submit a story. I did, but unfortunately I got a rejection from the editor saying she didn’t think it was a good fit. Not one to waste a story, I decided to tweak it and take it in a new direction. I introduced Sadie, a witch, to the mix. She is assigned to the Department of Love after she wills her neighbor’s car through his front window. She has to pair mortal couples together so they find love. However, there’s one stipulation and that’s she can’t use any witchcraft. She decides to open a match making agency called Perfect Pairing. I enjoyed writing about this character so much that I got the idea to pitch it as a series where in each book she has to try and pair a new couple.
My second one began with a series in mind and once again is a paranormal one. I’d seen shifter stories that seemed
