33 Worst Mistakes for Writers Series
()
About this series
This book is not just about mistakes writers make but about things they tend to neglect. However it will not tell you "How To" create a world. That is still up to you but the most important point is to create an abundance of living beings and all they need to survive in a believable way.
Generally, this book is aimed at writers of SF or Fantasy. Of course it also is of help in any other genre if you want to avoid mistakes in the details [Nothing is more annoying than a medieval person walking through fields of maize (Columbus imported maize from America; the first fields in Spain were cultivated in 1525) or an east side window showing a glorious sunset (the sun sets in the West)].

- The 33 Worst Mistakes Writers Make About Courtroom Law
2
Writers often stray from the reality of the legal system because we think we know about the law from watching television and movies and reading mystery novels. Unfortunately many dramatizations of criminal investigations and legal proceedings more closely resemble The Three Stooges slapstick reel Disorder in the Court than any real world legal proceeding. I am not a lawyer, but I have spent the past three decades processing legal documents and researching legal details in order to get them right in the murder mysteries I've written. Law is all about conflict and a little research can yield some great plot ammunition, while blithely committing the worst blunders about the law that can get popcorn thrown at the screen or your book thrown across the room by otherwise mild-mannered lawyers and paralegals.

San Francisco is beautiful, some parts of it can be unexpectedly dangerous, and the atmosphere has always been electric with new ideas. Those of us who love the city often have a fierce appetite for information about it and we love to read books set here. The pleasure turns to exasperation when a book or movie set in San Francisco gets the basic details wrong. So I'm sharing some information with other writers to help you to keep your story set in a believable San Francisco.

B. Burkheart
Becky takes frequent flights of fantasy, in real life as well as in her writing. It’s said that life is stranger than fiction, but Becky’s out to prove it’s possible to integrate it both ways. Whether she’s racing her Arabian horses through the woods, rapid firing her .45 or gargoyling from local rooftops, Becky finds it hard to stay grounded in the real world. Although she has yet to ride in a space ship (she did get to simulate crashing a 727) or to meet a real vampire (that she’s aware of), piratey dress, “arrgh matey’s” and pints of brew are standard fare on the odd weekend.
