Mystery, action, great characters, with some comedy and a little romance thrown in for good measure, make this a must read. People are finally ready for change and the newly elected reform Council has hired a young man named Mitch O’Keefe to unravel the city’s financial problems. Mitch is thrown together through some very odd circumstances with Millie Boyd. Millie is facing her own set of challenges and is initially a reluctant partner to the attractive Mitch as they work to solve the mystery of why the city has no money. In doing so they set the stage for Millie to discover her talent for unraveling mysteries. Millie is nominated for election as city marshal, not knowing there are dangerous forces at work. She knows there is more to the city's problem than a lack of cash and to unravel the mystery she needs to be City Marshal. Solving one mystery just uncovers a deeper and more dangerous mystery that will put lives at risk, including Millie's.

Marshal Millie Boyd has just finished her first term as the elected City Marshal of the small lake front City of Safe Haven Bay in Mountain County. In the last two years her achievements in bringing law and order to the City have made her a modern folk hero and gained her national recognition as a crime fighter. She has built a small local department of lawmen and women second to none and been named State Police Chief of the Year. Now Millie is being lobbied to run for election as County Sheriff and to join a reform ticket to clean up Mountain County's government. The County sure could use some help because the Sheriff's Department is a mess and the County is mired in mismanagement. If she runs for Sheriff as part of the reform ticket Millie will be leaving a Department and community where her future is assured. Millie however feels a greater duty calling. Little does she know she will be faced with a lot more than a Department in crisis. She will be faced with a mystery that has far reaching implications and a host of challenges which will tax her mental and physical stamina and abilities. Murder, danger, conspiracy, organizational challenges and intrigue are in Millie's future if she runs for Sheriff.

It is election time in the beautiful resort area of Mountain County but it seems no one is willing to run against Sheriff Millie Boyd as she stands for re-election as County Sheriff. It is no surprise to the residents. Sheriff Millie is after all a modern folk hero who is generally respected and loved by the voters of Mountain County. She is two time state Police Chief of the Year because of her knack for solving mysteries and her ability to build and manage outstanding law enforcement teams. Just when Millie thinks that a few Friday night rowdy tourists at the local bars will be her biggest problem an unidentified murder victim’s body is found floating in the lake. In order to get to the bottom of the crime Millie must find out who the victim is. To complicate matters a notorious motorcycle gang shows up in Mountain County and Millie must deal with that threat while balancing a new romantic interest as well as her real estate development business. Millie certainly has her hands full and her continued success will depend on how many things she can juggle at the same time without dropping something. She has no idea the challenges she will face are more far reaching and more dangerous than it would first appear.

Millie must now find out why having successfully escaped Millie’s jurisdiction the wanted felon is back in Mountain County. While in the pursuit of capturing the elusive fugitive, Millie uncovers a sinister plot that reaches far beyond Mountain County. Now Millie has a mystery on her hands she may or may not be able to solve but solve it she must. As if Millie’s life is not complicated enough balancing her job as the elected Sheriff with directing her successful development company, an old romantic interest is back on the scene. Millie is suddenly faced with another complication in her life. Will his presence be a blessing or a curse? Will Millie be up to the challenge of successfully balancing all the opportunities and problems with which she is faced? Millie’s life has never been boring and that seems the one thing that will not change.

Yes, she seems a shoe in. Then just before the election, a series of murders of well known residents occur. The murders seem to be random, brutal and without motive. The murders are big news and questions are raised as to whether the Sheriff still has what it takes to solve these serial murder cases. The talk has resulted in a challenger stepping forward to run against Millie. The challenge for Millie is to solve the murders in time to save her re-election. Millie as she always has faces the challenges both political and investigative head on. She does it with the tenacity of a political bulldog and the nose of an investigative blood hound. The mystery of the murders must be solved and fast. Little does Millie know she will face a much greater life altering challenge.

The President of the United States has awarded Sheriff Millie the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor. Now she will need the bravery she displayed in winning the nation’s highest police valor medal. She has to meet her fiancée’s family and that will just be one of the challenges she will face. She returns home to find a new criminal enterprise has come to Mountain County. The Sheriff in neighboring River County is either inept or corrupt and Millie thinks it is the latter. She suspects he is sheltering the person behind the criminal enterprise that is moving into her county. Every law-abiding citizen in River County fears their Sheriff and there has been no one brave enough to challenge him in an election. Millie finds an unlikely candidate whom she must mentor if she is to help unseat the Sheriff of River County and uncover the mystery of who was pulling his strings and running the criminal enterprise. All the while Millie must continue to direct her successful business interests and balance her unusual personal life.

Millie’s Life Lesson #7 - If you care enough you may get the very best. Sheriff Millie’s county is facing an invasion of binge drinking riotous college students. As bad as this is, what comes next is much worse. The naked body of a young woman is found beside a rural road. Millie’s team soon finds the crime is one of a string of serial murders reaching outside her jurisdiction. Millie’s team is the first to connect the murders and the investigation points to a widespread evil. It’s a case that puts Millie and her deputies’ lives in peril. To add to Millie’s burden, this case comes at a time when events in her personal life make this case “hit home”. She comes to understand this is a case only her team will solve because she is the one who cares the most. Innocent lives are at stake and time is not their friend.
