About this ebook

While the well-laid plans of the Centralist movement and it's conspirators go unnoticed, the cogs turn fervently toward secession from the Galactic Union. Thanks to a parting gift from the good General, Elijah transitions his skill set from Full Blood to Ghost for hire, dipping his toes dangerously deep into the depths of Phantom Technology and unsatisfied with his current level of progress. However, Elijah puts his training on hold when he receives a communication from the SGB in regards to missing shipments, not some clerical error or a pirate attack, but ships vanishing from space entirely, as if something or someone had ripped them from the stars.

    Ghost for Hire

    Azure Central, Maiiar-4

Since the Old Terrace Order’s first contact with the amphibious peoples of the I’malar Collective, both species have flourished for three centuries. While Terrace has caught up to I’malar on a good deal of technologies, a certain level of distrust emerges when one race holds the other in its palm. What secrets do OTO’s benefactors continue to hide from them in this era? – Old Terrace Order (OTO) Archives

Elijah Adamson, age 36, Private Ghost for hire in the Core Systems. Elijah perched on the rooftop of the highest point in Azure Central on Maiiar-4, a skyscraper that loomed at least one hundred meters higher than any other point in the city. He glanced down at the bustling traffic and revved his Phantom Drive to accelerate his vision. He found that, with practice, he could relegate the acceleration or lack thereof, to specific body parts. It came in handy when he wanted to stay in mist form but beat the living tar out of someone at the same time. Logan’s Beta Xarconium worked well enough, but the material lacked the punch of the standard I’malar imports. He took what he could get though, and the steady supply from Logan arrived gratis, provided he kept up with his monthly reports.

Elijah had been doing part-time security for some private firms in Maiiar Sector. The work delivered a healthy dose of experience and the occasional opportunity to apply his Phase Shifting techniques in the field. Though the majority of assignments involved tracking down unpaid credit debts or bodyguard duty, there were a few like this one, where a rare opportunity presented itself, to release his restraints completely.

I see them, Elijah said. Jet black transport, B-Class heading north down Bernard Avenue.

Damn, you’re better than radar, Jason said through his earpiece. We’re heading to cut them off. Can you slow them down?

Elijah smiled. Who do you think I am?

The black, speedy transport clashed against civilian vehicles as it sped through the city street in a vain effort to outrun their eventual capture. Elijah served as a catalyst and little more, but he took pride in what he was about to do. He grabbed his earpiece and wrapped his fingers around the tech before he revved up his Phantom Drive. His body glowed a radiant yellow before he erupted into pure mist. Elijah dove off the skyscraper.

The world around him moved in slow motion as he spiraled down the floors of the towering monolith. Traffic grinded to a near halt, and the people around him froze into
