About this ebook

Jamie is late for her Valentine's Day date when the elevator she's in breaks down and she gets stuck with a handsome but rather snarky stranger. Not the perfect way to spend the most romantic day of the year, especially not if you are claustrophobic! It's a good thing that she has a boyfriend, though, because she finds the fierce attraction hard to resist.

A year later Terry is on a Valentine's Day scavenger hunt that his fiancée has set up when the blizzard of the decade hits the city, and he ends up in a hair salon with a woman that he almost doesn't recognize it first. It's that woman from the elevator, a year ago. He finds her strangely alluring, but there are certain boundaries that mustn't be crossed.

What are the odds that two strangers keep running into each other, and on Valentine's Day of all days? And will the third time be the charm, even though Jamie has sold her hair salon and moved right across the country to try her luck in San Francisco?

    H old the elevator!

The doors had already started to close but Jamie threw herself into the gap and the doors slid apart again. Phew, that was close, she muttered when she stepped into the elevator, more to herself than to the person standing next to her. She was pulling her hair out of the collar of her coat and somehow managed to snag the button by the cuff in her hair at the back of her neck, and ended up with her head stuck in an awkward and not to mention uncomfortable angle. The only thing she could see of the other person in the small space was a pair of jeans and dark brown leather boots with salt marks on the sides.

Yes, said a drawling voice somewhere above the boots. Real lucky. Around these parts you might have to wait an hour or so for the next one, had you missed it.

Jamie gave up trying to untangle the hair and just yanked her coat sleeve lose with a determined pull. Her eyes teared up from the pain, so when she stared at the stranger that had made the sarcastic remark he appeared a bit blurry. Cute, but blurry. She snorted and turned away. What did she care if he was cute or not? She had a boyfriend.

But she couldn’t help but steal another glance at him, almost immediately. The man was standing facing the doors, with his head slightly tilted back and his eyes fixed on the numbers lighting up for every floor that they passed. He was only a few inches taller than her—although her boots did have quite high heels for winter—but those broad shoulders filled out the expensive winter coat very nicely, indeed. The checkered scarf was untied and looked soft as a kitten. Probably cashmere. Probably cost more than a couple of her utility bills. His profile looked like it had been drawn with a straight metal ruler and his cheeks were covered by a short stubble that she imagined would leave her cheeks and breasts all red and flushed with stubble rash.

Wait a minute, what was she thinking? Here she was, hurrying from her appointment so that she would have time to go home and take a shower, put on a pretty dress and make herself presentable before Ted came to pick her up for their date. Their very first Valentine’s Day date. The first of many, she was certain of that. Ted was a keeper.

So why was she picturing herself having steamy stubble burning sex with some snarky elevator stranger? What on earth was wrong with her?

Without a warning, the elevator jerked to a stop so suddenly that she stumbled and almost fell. Everything went totally dark for a second or two or maybe even ten, but just as she was about to panic a pale green emergency light came on. She turned her face against the light and realized that she had grabbed hold of the snarky stranger when she fell. One of her hands was on his firm butt, the other one on the top of his thigh. The inner part of the top of his thigh. In the border areas to the northwest that some people might claim didn’t belong to the thigh region at all.

She jerked her hands away and almost fell face first into his groin. A strong hand grabbed her upper arm and raised her to her feet again.

Excuse me, he said, and there was a distinct chill in his voice but perhaps also a sprinkle of humor.

I’m so sorry, Jamie mumbled and pulled herself backward over to the wall, as
