About this ebook

The higher self is the eternal part of us, residing in our causal body as our soul. Through the cycle of karmic cleansing, we rid ourselves of negative aspects within our personalities. This healing is achieved by opening our hearts. Ultimately, the goal of healing is to expand our higher consciousness. So much is offered to us each time we enter earth school. And through our lifetimes, all must be learned.

Julie R. Dargis

Julie R. Dargis is based in Carlsbad, CA. She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, and later spent over fifteen years working in Central Africa and Eastern Europe with populations affected by war and natural disaster. For many years, she was a humanitarian aid worker in some of the most difficult and dangerous countries in the world. Julie's current healing practice includes oracle card readings, energy healing, and writing prompts to promote self-directed, soul-based healing. Her newest book, "White Moon in a Powder Blue Sky" is a collection of poetry and prose with "thought experiments" in quantum physics, the role of consciousness, and the presence of spirit in our multidimensional world. An oracle card deck of the same name will be released in September 2016. "Pit Stop in the Paris of Africa" is a collection of personal essays and verse, mainly sonnets, which the author began writing when she was a Peace Corps volunteer. The book depicts the life and times of the author and the many people she met and worked with in Morocco, Rwanda, Republic of Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Chad, Ireland, Serbia, Bulgaria, Sudan (Darfur), South Sudan, and Somalia.

    Acknowledgments

To Catherine Bachy, Pam Bohlken, Mackenzie Hanson, Susan Vorderbruggen, and Sarah Wilson, thank you for being my beta readers. Your many insights and suggestions have enhanced this book with pure and positive energy. To Phyllis Theroux, who taught me how to neatly hang my paragraphs in a row and then to arrange them in a vase, your words kept nudging me back to where I needed to be. To Victoria Danzig, thank you for your magical insights into the field and for immediately—and intuitively—knowing. Many thanks also to Federico Emmanuel Miraglia, for your clarifications from the quantum world of particle physics (included as notes herein). Thank you to my loved ones, past and present. And to spirit, my incredible teachers and guides, thank you for the netting, tightly knotted in all directions in time with your undying respect for my free will.

    Preface

Through an exploration of energy healing as it relates to quantum theory, consciousness, and the connection to one’s higher self, we can begin to appreciate the mysteries of what Einstein termed spooky action at a distance. This action, which is merely energy, is nothing to fear. By considering how we continue to be connected to our loved ones and spirit through an eternal, unending field of energy, we gain a deeper appreciation for what our lives are truly meant to be.

This book explores the nature of reality that revolves alongside the magical world of spirit. By giving equal play to the physical and subtle worlds, more than what is currently observable through the eyes of science comes into focus. Complementary modes of energy healing such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Pranic Healing, and Reiki, among others, are demystified.

Although spirit, as defined in most dictionaries, is a singular pronoun, in this book I use it as a collective noun. The word comes from the Latin word spiritus, meaning breath. To understand where spirit resides, one needs to consider the definition of consciousness. My personal ontological definition of consciousness includes the soul (our timeless spirits or higher selves) as part of the greater consciousness. Although we incarnate as individual personalities in each lifetime, our higher selves retain all of our life lessons and remain tethered to the eternal, collective consciousness through the subtle, causal body. Within this greater consciousness, the collective of individual spirits dissolves into oneness.

On the other side of the veil, our loved ones and spirit live on with no constraints in either space or time. We know this from the many accounts of those who have had and documented near-death experiences (NDEs). For those who have had NDEs and have chosen to come back and continue their soul work in the three-dimensional¹ plane of Earth, they do so with a renewed commitment to teach others about
