Traverse City Reflections
Welcome to Travis City, Michigan
Traverse City is a part of the greater Northern Michigan region and an inland port of Grand Traverse Bay. The bay earned its name from 18th century France voyagers who named it La Grande Traverse or the long crossing
across the mouth of the bay. Grand Traverse Bay is a long, natural harbor separated from the waters of Lake Michigan by the Leelanau Peninsula and by a narrow peninsula of scenic beautiful hillsides called the Old Mission Peninsula.
The Traverse City area is the largest producer of tart cherries in the United States. Near the time of the cherry harvest, the city celebrates and hosts the annual week-long National Cherry Festival. The region also produces grapes, and is a center of wine production in the Midwest.
During all four seasons is another key industry. The area features freshwater sandy beaches, vineyards, shopping, and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The most prominent of the city waterways is the Boardman River, a designated Blue Ribbon trout fishery and a state-designated Natural River.
Regardless of whether you’re looking for outdoor recreation, a downtown shopping trip, wine and craft beer tasting, a dining experience, or the sandy beaches, Traverse City is a premier Michigan experience.

Yearly Events in Traverse City
The National Cherry Festival (early July) is by far the largest yearly event in Traverse City. The festival celebrates the city’s role as America’s Cherry Capital. The air shows draw a huge crowd of spectators and all sorts of airborne flights over Grand Traverse Bay. The Blue Angels and U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds have flown at the air show along with acrobatic planes. There are fireworks, parades, outdoor concerts, races, midway rides, a car show, arts & craft show and a food court. It is a good time to eat cherries. A queen and her court
