Author

Olivia Hardin

When Olivia Hardin began having strange movie-like dreams in her teens, she had no choice but to begin putting them to paper. Before long the writing bug had her and she knew she wanted to be a published author. Several rejections plus a little bit of life later, and she was temporarily “cured” of the urge to write. That is until she met a group of talented and fabulous writers who gave her the direction and encouragement she needed to get lost in the words again. Olivia’s attended three different universities over the years and toyed with majors in Computer Technology, English, History and Geology. Then one day she heard the term road scholar and she knew that was what she wanted to be. Now she “studies” anything and everything just for the joy of learning.  She's also an insatiable crafter who only completes about 1 out of 5 projects, a jogger who hates to run, and she’s sometimes accused of being artistic. A native Texas girl, Olivia lives in the beautiful Lone Star state with her husband, Danny and their puppy, Bonnie.

One Bite Paradise - Olivia Hardin

    Dedication

To new beginnings & second chances,

all in the name of LOVE.

    Prologue

SHE’LL ONLY WORK FOR you over my dead body.

Those words beat against the recesses of Doc’s mind even as Lucas’ fists landed blows to his body. The words were a vow, a promise, a pledge of his love for Jill.

A voice deep in his head warned him that the words might also be an omen of what was to come.

Lucas was about one hundred years his senior. Age didn’t make a vampire old and feeble. It made him stronger and more powerful, faster and more agile. To further shift the balance out of Doc’s favor, Lucas had almost certainly been feeding on magical blood.

Umph! The air wheezed from Doc’s lungs when Lucas’ foot landed a hard kick to his gut. Doc rolled away when the other vampire tried to kick him in the face.

You’ve got more fight in you than I thought you did, Doc. Lucas laughed into his face as the two of them rolled and wrestled on the ground, tossing dust up into the cool night air.

Doc could feel Jill’s eyes on him. The scent of her fear wafted heavy on the air, and it was all he could do to maintain his stony composure. The sound of her terrified gasp tore through his heart, but he ignored the urge to look at her. He had to be strong. He had to win... for her.

Their time together seemed so short. How many years had it been? He wasn’t even sure. Jill had made the comment long ago that he never kept track of the passage of time. Time was so much different for a vampire and before Jill came to live with him, Doc didn’t really have anything more than revenge to live for anyway.

Now he had her. She was all that mattered to him now.

Lucas and Doc both got up, and Doc took a few steps back. He held his arms out in front of him, his fingers tipped with razor-sharp claws. One side of Lucas’ mouth lifted in a cocky and nasty grin. Confidence oozed from his expression, and a sense of foreboding draped over Doc like a pall.

Fatigue ate away at him and slowed his reflexes. Before he knew it, Lucas struck, dazing him and flinging him around so that he could pin his head with one arm.

Doc’s gaze met Jill’s and her lavender eyes opened wide, horror marring her features. But he ignored that and instead dove into those beautiful eyes, the deep liquid enveloping him in peace. She turned away from him, covering her face with her hands, but his mind kept him wrapped in the cocoon of her gaze. He swam into her, sank into her, lost himself in her.

There was a crack, a pop as the bones in his neck separated.

Death wasn’t what he expected it to be. Her love surrounded him and made him safe even as all went black.
