About this ebook

The following stories tell of various individuals who perished through unusual, though often far-fetched, circumstances. Several of the incidents were caused by sheer bad luck - the wrong place at the wrong time -, while others were caused by their own stupidity and carelessness. Either way, these stories reveal just how downright diabolical death can truly be.

BIZARRE DEATHS

by

Introduction

The one thing, in all the history and mystery of the world, that man has ever been certain of...is death. We're born, we live, and then we die. Kick the bucket. Bite the dust. Cease to be. It's the way of life; the natural order of life's cycle. Nothing at all to be afraid of; it’s just nature taking its course. The question, though, is how we die. Most of us want to reach a ripe old age and then go out peacefully, of natural causes - preferably in one's sleep. Unfortunately though, as fate would have it, it doesn't always pan out that way - many of us are just not that lucky. You could be walking across the road one day, minding your own business, going about your daily routine, and then suddenly, in an instant, get crushed like a tomato by a falling plane engine. You might succumb to rabies after being bitten by a bearded feral-looking hobo on the street. You might be unfortunate enough to get whacked by a contract killer who misidentified you as his intended target You could choke to death on a strand of hair while eating soup at your local diner. You get the point.

Death comes dressed in all fanciful forms and, try as we might, there is no avoiding the inevitable. It is certain.

Cave-In at the Ski Resort

Jake Shumway, 19, and Robert Carr, 18, freshmen on spring break from Plymouth State College in New Hampshire were found buried in the collapsed cave by friends early Saturday morning at the Stratton Mountain ski resort.

Avid outdoorsmen, Carr and Shumway had gone to Stratton to watch the US Open Snowboarding competition. To save money, they dug a cave at the edge of their parking lot while the rest of their group spent the night in cars, campers, and a motel.

Dan Davis, a county official, said the tragedy was caused when a bucket-loader dumped snow directly on top of the cave. Crews from the ski resort had been sanding the parking lot and moving snow around trying to clear the area for more parking spaces.

Burp at the Circus

A circus act in Romania ended in tragedy on 23 January 1998 when fire-eater Vlad Cazacu, 43, belched in mid-performance and was blown to bits. Incredibly no one came to his rescue as stunned onlookers assumed this was part of an amazing illusion. Consequently this unfortunate man, who probably could have been saved, was allowed to just lie there and die.

In the first part of the performance, said fellow
