About this ebook

Things were heating up with the FBI on the case. Agent’s Thompkins and Tau had rolled into town and started digging and talking to everyone. There had been no recent deaths and it was unsure whether there was even cause for the agent’s to be there. The deaths could, possibly, all have been an accident, after all.

Reviewing the statements and surveillance videos was a lot of work for a maybe case, but Tau took his job seriously and they scoured each little document. They finally made a small break in the case after all. The killer was on tape! Now to identify her. Would the killing continue giving them a chance to capture the perpetrator, or had they missed their chance?

    The FBI - Charlie Wagner

    Part 3: The FBI

    Chapter 10The Arrival

The road stretched out before him as he drove through the empty landscape. He tried to drown out the changing radio stations and concentrate on the task at hand. Danny Tau was a company man, the kind who sticks to the book and gets the job done. His thoughts while driving were focused on the possibility of this case being his last. He had grown disenchanted with the job and thought about retiring from it and returning home to help his aging parents with their restaurant. He looked at his new partner, who was currently annoying him by alternately changing the radio stations repeatedly or singing along loudly to the songs she liked. Disco seemed to be her favorite, which he had a hard time wrapping his head around. She was green, a total new recruit, but she was smart. She had excelled in all her classes at the academy and was eager to get to work. Training her could very well be his last task as an FBI agent.

He remembered being that eager, back when his wife was alive, but the last five years had taken their toll on him, making him both look and feel older than his forty years. Danny rolled his neck and tried to work out the stiffness. They were the nearest FBI division to the town, but were still 5 hours away. It had been a long trip and he was beyond ready to get out of the car and stretch his long body. Kuso! he muttered under his breath, reverting to his parents’ language for the curse. Thompkins, can you settle on a station please?

Oh, yeah, sorry. Are we nearly there?

God, I hope so. They had been assigned to what the local police were beginning to think of as a serial case. They wouldn’t have been called out if the police hadn’t branched out and looked for similar murders in other states. Turns out there were a few that fit the bill. By the sounds of it, though, the police had compiled a pretty good list of suspects so they were just going to step in and put on a little bit of pressure. As far as Danny was concerned, it should be a short, easy case to work. Thompkins finally settled on a station and leaned back in her seat, looking out the window. She worked the usual FBI digs of a pantsuit over a white button up. Her hair was pulled back in a loose bun at the back of her head. Her hair, like his, was black as night and shone almost blue in the sunlight. She turned her blue eyes back to him.

So, we really aren’t going to take control of the case then? He shook his head. My first real case is just me tagging along to learn the basics? She sounded disappointed.

In a way, yes. I was told that they wanted to pair you with a good veteran agent so you got stuck with me. My job is to show you how to do your job. I think that’s something I can manage. We’ll go to town, catch a killer, and be back to the station before the week ends probably.

You don’t think anything exciting is going to happen? He certainly hoped not, he’d had more than his fair share of exciting. I guess, I just thought there would be more to it. I know it’s not like it is on TV, I’m not a complete dolt, but there should at least be some action, right? He shrugged. He didn’t bother to speak because he knew she would just talk right over him. He couldn’t understand how she got any thinking done if she was always talking. "Who knows, I guess. This is just the first step. Either way, I’m glad I got partnered with you, I do need someone to show me the ropes and set me on the right path. The director said we were both very by the book and analytical, I guess that means we have similar styles. It’s better to learn from someone I can actually get along with instead
