    VICTORIAN CROSS-STITCH

    CUSHION

    Materials: 1 1/8 yds. 22-inch wide Glenshee Linen oatmeal shade. 8 skeins Beehive Tapestry Wool—4 dark olive green 1779; 2 of light green 1777; 1 each coral 1702 and maroon 1844. 2 1/4 yds. olive green fringe or cord.

    Cut material into two 20-inch squares. Mark centre lines of one piece with tacking threads. Start the design from centre. Each square of the chart equals a cross over 3 threads of the linen. Work one quarter of the design as on chart, then turn chart round to repeat pattern, fitting A to B.

    Press finished embroidery on wrong side under a damp cloth. Make up into 19-inch square cushion, finishing edge with an olive green fringe or cord.

    Mark centre of canvas and draw a 12-inch circle in pencil. Start design from centre, each square on the chart equalling a cross over one intersection of the canvas. Work one quarter of the design, then turn chart round to repeat the pattern, fitting A to B. Fill in the background in crimson tent-stitch. Press on wrong side under a damp cloth and mount over pad.

    Materials: 1 yard 22-inch wide Glenshee Jute-Rayon fabric or any crash having 15 threads to one
