From the author
Hi, this is my story. I decided to write it in a book format so that I could share it. It is a story like no other; I call my story: The will of Sam Wilcox. I am in my fifties and decided with Colin, my husband, to make this story known. We have so far had an exciting life together and I am glad to share this with you.
Regards,
Alexandra Thompson
Chapter 1
Westmount, Montreal
After paying the cab driver his fare, Lucie closes the cab door in front of a beautiful condo tower surrounded by red and orange maple trees. She walks towards the tower, making sure that she is at the right address Miss Alexandra Thompson had given her. Today is the first official day of fall, the wind is blowing leaves off the trees and everything around Lucie is carpeted in color; the usual fall weather in the west end of Montreal. She walks through a gate that opens and she identifies herself to security. She is greeted by a maid attired in gray and white who gently invites her to walk towards an elevator which brings them to the very top of the tower where Miss Thompson is waiting. Lucie had responded to Alexandra Thompson’s request to assist in getting a book written. Lucie was a graduate in Literature from the University of Montreal. She has just started her editing and publishing company and is eager to find out what the story would be about.
The condo seems to be very large. Lucie remains at the entrance waiting for the maid to come back after hanging her coat and scarf in the closet.
A voice from a room nearby is heard: Come Lucie I have been waiting for you, finally you are here.
Lucie follows the voice and enters a carpeted living room which is very cosy with several couches and plenty of colorful cushions. A fireplace illuminates the room; crackling wood and a grandfather clock are the only sounds accompanying Miss Thompson’s voice.
Wearing what seems to be a long dressing gown and covered with a plaid blanket, Alexandra sitting in a lazy boy looking at Lucie as she enters the room.
While they have only spoken over the phone a few times, they were both ready to get this book started. This would be Lucie’s first publication.
Introducing herself, Lucie hands her an Editing and Publishing business card with a smile. She is proud of herself as it is the first official meeting she has had with someone to get a book done and was completely thrilled about it.
- Of the many persons who have enquired about my story, you are the person I have chosen. I have to share with you a story that Colin and I have never told anyone ever. We have been quite reluctant to talk about this story of Sam Wilcox, but today, it is part of our bucket list to get this done. We can’t wait to see it on the bookshelves and on line. It will be fun to see the reactions and the feedback once published.
- Please take note that all the proceeds of that book are to go to my Foundation.
- There is coffee here on the table, please serve yourself.
- Are you comfortable to write at this table?
- No problem, I’ll just turn on my laptop and will be ready in a few seconds.
- Alright, I will be the one telling you our story. Colin is currently on the West Coast with our son visiting his relatives and friends. I didn’t follow as I wanted to take this time to give you my story. It would be better and quieter to get it done this way.
- I decided to take you with me on an encounter like no other. Have I been lucky to meet that man? I think that I have been. The further I advanced in this adventure, the more my suspicious ideas that he wanted to seduce me with money faded along the way. It became more real that he had no bad intentions towards me. I ended up being the person he was counting on to address, correct and redress for him many situations that he considered important during his life. He regretfully couldn’t complete what he intended to do.
I never thought that I would do these things for him but it was meant to be part of my destiny. One thing is for sure, I agreed to be part of it and I have never regretted anything. So, if you concur with me, I will proceed.
Chapter 2
Alexandra’s life takes an unexpected turn
Lucie’s curiosity aroused as she sits in front of her.
The maid shows up with more logs for the fireplace, closes the door half way as she leaves both the teller and the guest to have their conversation in private.
During the early 2000’s, I would say that I was living my crazy years when after graduating with a Doctorate as a veterinary from the University of Montreal, I became an activist and advocate against animal cruelty. I purposely postponed my career and got on the front lines to deal with and expose those who were taking innocent animal lives.
The direction I decided to take was not the easiest one, living off some donations from non profit groups who supported our cause and our concerns about the treatment of animals. I was actively engaged in doing anything to make changes regarding the abuse and politics surrounding these topics. Day in and day out, I witnessed a lot of injustice, wasted lives and as a vet, you are expected to provide the care needed to give a better life to any animal under your care.
I moved out of my parents’ home and shared a one bedroom apartment in downtown Montreal with my boyfriend Colin after a few months of seeing each other. He was from Vancouver and was here in Montreal for the whole duration of his studies to earn a Veterinary PhD diploma like me. We met during our first year biology course. He was sitting right beside me and it was love at first sight. He really looked awesome and I was telling to myself if he was as intelligent as he was good looking, that it would be my lucky day. It happened that both qualities matched my expectations and he was the man I wanted to be with, we became inseparable. We shared so many topics about life and our vision of things for the future. It made our life really pleasant to share.
