    No. 1. TENSION

    This paragraph is most important—read it carefully before commencing your garment.

    You have obtained the correct SIRDAR WOOL, you have obtained the correct Needles, but to OBTAIN THE CORRECT MEASUREMENTS it is essential that you work to the tension stated. The one-inch rule at the side of this page indicates the number of stitches to the inch and is for your guidance. PLEASE USE IT. We suggest you work a small sample in this stitch before commencing the garment, then place the one-inch rule across it and see if your tension corresponds. If you are unable to obtain the correct tension proceed as follows: If you have less stitches than the number stated use a finer needle. If you have more stitches than the number stated use a coarser needle.

    THE TENSION FOR THIS GARMENT IS 11 1/2 stitches to two inches.

    ABBREVIATIONS

    K knit, p purl, sts stitches, tog together, s1 slip one stitch knitways, inc increase(ing), dec decreasing, MC Main colour, D dark, MD medium dark, M medium, L light.

    After casting off stitches for shaping, one stitch will remain on the right hand needle which is not included in the instructions that follow.

    N.B. For the smallest size read the instructions as given.

    For the larger sizes read the figures within the brackets.

    No. 2. MATERIALS

    18 [19:20:21] ozs. Main Colour, 2 ozs. Dark, 3 ozs. Medium Dark, 4 ozs. Medium and 3 ozs. Light, Sirdar Double Boucle.

    1 pair No. 10 and No. 12 Knitting Needles.

    1 zip fastener 5 inches in length.

    30 1/4 [32 1/2:34 3/4:37] inches Belt Backing.

    1 Buckle.

    1 medium sized crochet hook.

    MEASUREMENTS

    Width all round at underarm—to fit 34 [36:38:40] inch bust (actual measurement—36 [38:40:42] inches).

    Width all round hips—to fit 36 [38:40:42] inches.

    Length from top of shoulder—40 [40:40:40] inches, when in wear or length required.

    Length of sleeve seam—17 1/2 [17 1/2:17 1/2:17 1/2] inches.

    N.B. The length can be adjusted by working more or less inches evenly in each block of pattern.

    When not told to break off the wool carry each shade up the side of the work.

    THE BACK

    Using the No. 10 needles and D wool cast on 108 [112:120:124] sts.

    1ST Row. S1, k2, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    Join in the MD wool.

    2ND Row. Using the MD wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    Join in the M wool and proceed in pattern as follows:—

    1ST Row. Using the M wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    2ND Row. Using the D wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    3RD Row. Using the MD wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    4TH Row. Using the M wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    5TH Row. Using the D wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    6TH Row. Using the MD wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    Continue in pattern until the work measures 6 1/4 inches from the commencement, ending with the 2nd row.

    Break off the D wool and proceed as follows:—

    1ST Row. Using the MD wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    2ND Row. Using the M wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    Join in the L wool and proceed in pattern as follows:—

    1ST Row. Using the L wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    2ND Row. Using the MD wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    3RD Row. Using the M wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    4TH Row. Using the L wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    5TH Row. Using the MD wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    6TH Row. Using the M wool k3, * p2, k2, repeat from * to the last st, k1.

    Continue in pattern until the work measures
