      Chapter One - Sar-El

      Sar-El sat in the deeply forested glade and watched the small, furry root-eater make its way towards her, in its stealthy, slow manner. To the petite, red-haired young woman with the pale blue complexion, this was the highlight of her day, to be able to sit meditatively in the cool, aqua-coloured place with the azure light of two Sirius suns beaming through the dark foliage. To be one with the flora and fauna around her; this was magical!

      She sighed with contentment and the small creature lifted its grey head and looked at her with beady black eyes. She had gained its trust over many weeks of sitting statue still, while it became accustomed to her girlish figure and regarded her as just another woodland creature, like itself.

      She had visited these woods, since she was a very small girl and they seemed as familiar to her, as any town or neighbourhood would seem to a city dweller. She knew every tree, shrub and small animal or bird that lived in the azure depths of the forest and most of them regarded her with little interest, as she had proved to be a safe and silent companion.

      Sar-El had even managed to spy an elusive red cat that stalked silently in the undergrowth and had captured its rare visitation, on her holo-camera. She had even read reports in books that the wild creature was extinct, but she knew better. But she was not about to let other zoologists know of her find or she would soon see groups of animal scientists tramping through her forest and upsetting the animals, in their quest for fame!

      Sar-El, Sar-El! a voice rang out and she also heard the call of her grandmother in her mind. Like all
