    Materials: Of Patons Double Quick Knitting, 21 ozs. Frosty Green 3164, 2 ozs. White and 1 oz. Black. A pair each No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10 Queen Bee needles. 8 buttons.

    Measurements: To fit 39–41 inch chest; length from top of shoulders, 26 1/2 ins.; sleeve seam, 19 ins.

    Tension: 11 1/2 sts. and 15 1/2 rows measured over 2 ins. in stocking-stitch on No. 9 needles; 6 sts. to an inch over fair-isle pattern on No. 8 needles.

    Abbreviations: K.2 F.=Knit into front of 2nd stitch, then knit into front of 1st stitch before slipping both stitches from left needle.

    K. 2 B.=Knit into back of 2nd stitch, then knit into front of 1st stitch before slipping both stitches from left needle.

    G.=Frosty Green. B.=Black. W.=White.

    BACK

    With No. 10 needles and G. wool, cast on 132 sts. ** Work 16 rows k. 1, p. 1 rib, increasing 1 st. in centre on last row: 133 sts.

    Change to No. 8 needles. NEXT ROW: knit. NEXT ROW: purl.

    Join in W. and continue in stocking-stitch working the 29 rows from chart, repeating the 22 pattern sts. across then last stitch on knit rows and first stitch on purl rows as indicated. Read odd rows knit from right to left and even rows purl from left to right.

    When the 29 rows are done, break W. and work 5 rows stocking-stitch in G.

    Rejoin B. and continue as follows: NEXT ROW: K., * 3 G., 1 B., 2 G.; rep. from * to last stitch, 1 G. NEXT ROW: P., * 2 G., 3 B., 1 G.; rep. from * to last stitch, 1 G.

    NEXT ROW: K., * 1 G., 2 B.; rep. from * to last stitch, 1 G. NEXT ROW: P., * 2 B., 3 G., 1 B.; rep. from * to last stitch, 1 B. NEXT ROW: K., * 1 B., 5 G.; rep. from * to last stitch, 1 B. Break B.

    Change to No. 9 needles. NEXT ROW: purl, decreasing. 1 st. in centre. Work a further 10 rows stocking-stitch. Change to zig-zag pattern as follows:—

    1ST ROW: * k. 7, k. 2 F., k. 2; rep. from * to end. 2ND AND EVERY ALTERNATE ROW: purl. 3RD ROW: * k. 6, k. 2 F., k. 3; rep. from * to end. 5TH ROW: * k. 5, k. 2 F., k. 4; rep. from * to end. 7TH ROW: * k. 4, k. 2 F., k. 5; rep. from * to end.

    9TH ROW: * k. 3, k. 2 F., k. 6; rep. from * to end. 11TH ROW: * k. 2, k. 2 F., k. 7; rep. from * to end. 13TH ROW: * k. 2, k. 2 B., k. 7; rep. from * to end. 15TH ROW: * k. 3, k. 2 B., k. 6; rep. from * to end.

    17TH ROW: * k. 4, k. 2 B., k. 5; rep. from * to end. 19TH ROW: * k. 5, k. 2 B., k. 4; rep. from * to end. 21ST ROW: * k. 6, k. 2 B., k. 3; rep. from * to end. 23RD ROW: * k. 7, k. 2 B., k. 2; rep. from * to end. 24TH ROW: purl.

    The last 24 rows form zig-zag pattern. Continue straight in pattern until back measures 16 1/2 ins. down centre. **

    With right side facing, shape armholes by casting off 9 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st. at each end of next and every alternate row until 98 sts. remain. Work straight until back measures 26 ins. down centre.

    With right side facing, shape shoulders by casting off 8 sts. at beg. of next 6 rows, then 7 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows. Leave remaining 36 sts. on a spare needle.

    FRONTS

    Right: With No. 10 needles and G. wool, cast on 66 sts. and work as for back
