- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5First, be aware that this book is romantic suspense, heavy on the romance and light on the mystery/suspense. I expected more of a thriller, so this aspect took me by surprise and might be a letdown for readers seeking fast-paced suspense.Overall, I thought this was a good opening novel for the series. The author handles characterization well, allowing us to get to know Ellie and Clayton. The story's focus is really on these two people, the sexual tension between them, and their struggle to let go of the heartache of their pasts. The murder mystery, while interesting, feels secondary to their personal stories and budding romance. This series features a family of people involved in law enforcement, rather than a single main character, giving the author plenty of room to create. I'm looking forward to finding out where book #2 takes us.
