The ad in the newspaper caught my attention:
"Charming manor house + 1500m² of land — buy now to avoid disappointment. For further information, please contact..."
I missed the country air. It was time for a change of scene.
Everything moved very fast and I was soon visiting my new home, about fifty kilometres from the city. Your very own place in the country.
That was how they described it. The car taking me there sped along. I stared out of the window, transfixed by the slide-show of passing landscapes. At first, I had found city life interesting, but now, I desperately needed to get back to nature, to find some silence. Both of these things were essential to my work as an author.
When I arrived, I couldn’t believe my eyes: so quiet, and so much space!
Much more space than I had expected, in fact.
There were fruit trees, groves, and a few hedges marking out the boundaries. My mouth hung open as I wondered how many friends I could fit in this place!
A few days later, I signed the sales contract at my solicitor’s office, then left my Parisian apartment for my new home.
