    Reagan Burnsfield has no interest in finding himself a wife. But that's exactly what he must do when a lumber contract falls through and threatens the family business. Marrying the beautiful debutante Amanda Bruester will solve his short term need as well as give him the wife of his dreams. His courtship is hindered until they are arrested after stumbling upon bounty hunters hotly pursuing runaway slaves. In the ensuing scandal, Amanda chooses marriage over betraying her Aunt Gabriella's illegal activities in the Underground Railroad. Yet, despite being properly wed, another suitor, Derrick Banning, is determined to break apart their hasty marriage. He fancies it is he, not "that arrogant lumberman," who should be enjoying Amanda's wealth. While snowed in at his lumber camp, Amanda discovers papers that imply Reagan's offer of marriage wasn't the sacrifice she thought it to be. Despite his assurances he acted to protect her, Amanda begins to doubt everything about him. To complicate matters, mysterious scratches on Reagan's back seem to point to infidelity, further proving he's the untrustworthy knave Derrick claims him to be. When a prostitute's body is found in his office and Reagan is arrested for murder, Amanda flees to her Aunt's house until the mystery can be solved.

    Monica lives on an Indiana farm with her husband, two of her four children, a dog and two barn cats. When she's not writing or hauling grain, Monica enjoys canning food. Before writing her first book, she worked twenty-five years in the medical field of Optometry. During that time she wrote a human interest story in a medical newsletter and has had poetry published in Speer Presents. She also co-chairs a Writer's Group, Heartland Writer's Forum in Monroeville, Indiana. Although writing historical romances is her first love, her next book will be on spiritual experiences and revelations. Instead of creating stories, she will be sharing true stories that will uplift and edify her readers.Monica extends to any group/club/library an Author Presentation titled: One Writers Journey/Lessons in Perseverance. Presentation includes a 5 minute speech on how she got into writing, who her early influences were and who mentored her along the way. She speak on the lessons and symbolism she put in her writing. She gives a two sentence description of her first novel, Threads of Betrayal and reads a shortened version of Chapter 19 which touches on escaping slaves along the Underground Railroad.Monica also offers Writing Workshops and Publishing Workshops which are tailored toward beginning and intermediate writers, adults as well as high school students. "I want to help others avoid the same mistakes I made when I first began to write. It's my way of giving back for those who helped me along the way."
